Hawthorne Hotel - Featured Reviews (2017)
We were very excited to be staying at the infamous Hawthorne Hotel. It is a very important historical hotel and it is also known to be haunted. Whilst we did not encounter any spooky goings on, we did have a wonderful stay and I would love to take this opportunity to recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Salem. ||The hotel has an older but classy decor. The lobby took me by surprise as it is exceptionally beautiful and peaceful. There are lots of sofas and seats and people were seen relaxing and reading here.||There is complimentary coffee, lemonade and bottled water for the guests which is a great touch.||As you would imagine, the hotel is very old and it certinally doesn't look like most modern hotels but rest assured you still have access to a great TV system with plenty of channels, very good WiFi and various other amenities as needed.||Another fantastic thing about staying at the Hawthorne Hotel is that is central and close to all the places that tourists should wish to see. Essex street is literally across the road and it contains a lot of the spookier, witch themed stores and attractions. The Salem Witch Museum is literally at the end of the road the hotel is on also. No long walks or getting lost here.||We had a fantastic time and by not going at Halloween time we got to experience Salem at our lesuire and it was quiet and relaxing. I am very grateful to have stayed in this famous hotel.||We got a lovely $13 voucher per person towards out breakfast at the hotel meaning our breakfasts cost very little each morning. The staff there were fantastic and I would like to give a special mention to Caroline whose great service and friendly reception every morning made us feel very welcome. The food was spectacular!||Highly recommended hotel.
My husband and I had our wedding day at the Hawthorne Hotel in 2022. It was the best weekend we could ever ask for. Our event planner, Beth was truly a gem and was supportive and helpful to make our day special. The food was wonderful. The environment is perfect and the Hawthorne Hotel holds a very special place in our hearts. We stayed for our one year wedding anniversary. We will be back in 2025 for WTC event. Can't wait!
We had the single queen room on a upper floor. It was very good. Lacked small fridge which I think should be a staple in rooms. The bed was comfortable. For a historic hotel it was very comfortable and well kept. It has the strongest water pressure of any shower I've ever been in! The tavern bar is a fun place to unwind and meet people. Of all the places in Salem I've stayed this would be my first choice.
Right downtown Salem! You get one parking spot in the parking lot if you rent a car. Most everything is walking distance. Food & drinks were wonderful here! Rooms are small but CLEAN! Staff was super friendly! Definitely staying here again!
We lived staying here. It was very clean. Staff was nice. I love the old, antique and historic feeling of everything. It's perfectly located to be able to walk everywhere. The bed was cozy. We stayed in 612 and the room was large and mostly quiet. Beautiful views, bright rooms, and great food on site.
Absolutely perfect location, walking distance to everything. Hotel is clean and beautiful. We stayed in "haunted" suite 612. Comfy beds, mini fridge, 2 tvs, sitting room area.
Hotel staff are amazing and beyond accommodating. I traveled with my sister as a birthday trip. She had called ahead and coordinated with the hotel staff to have the room decorated before arrival. Everything was perfect. They also arranged with my sister for food and sparkling water to be waiting in the room upon check-in . The staff went above and beyond and even left a gift and card from themselves for me.
Our stay was amazing and everyone was super nice and helpful. Food in The Tavern was great as well! Highly recommend!
ALSO: I see some mentioning no fridge in some rooms.... overheard staff at desk telling another occupant if there is no fridge in their room they can arrange to have a mini one sent up and placed in the room for their stay. Just have to ask!
This was a great hotel. Walking distance from all the major attractions, the hotel is charming and comfortable. Having preserved its 1925 look, the hotel is a great place for a short stay. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff is kind and very helpful. Only two issues: the food at the hotel's restaurant is greatly overpriced and our bathroom light kept turning on by itself during the night. All in all, I loved this hotel and will definitely stay here next time I’m in Salem!
Positive: Location was awesome! They also let you keep your vehicle parked there till 4pm on day you check out, so much easier to check out early and not have to worry about trying to go find parking and just being able to jump in car and head home. Negative: Our phone did not work , told us maintenance would check in am ( didnt happen)so we wernt able to get room service, or wake up call, on 5th floor, crazy cost of room, took a lot away from our experience, bikes advertised as complimentary false
The room was clean and warm. The queen bed was comfortable and sheets smelled clean and soft. The daybed was a little noisy and the trundle bed needs an updated mattress. Neither of us slept on it but we did pull it out to relax by the TV. Love the s
We are recently back from a trip to Salem celebrating my birthday and Christmas. We chose the Hotel Salem without knowing much about it, but wow, did we choose well. The room was large and comfortable, the location perfect for exploring Salem, the re
Our first time in Salem, our first witch trial tour and the Bewitched tour was the highlight of our visit. Our guide Sarah did a wonderful job of sharing history of the witch trials, the town, the people, some trivia and the period in an engaging ent

Falafel sandwhich. As soon as I bit into it I swear my eyes rolled to the back of my head. Great portion size. The price is right for how tasty it is, honestly. You just have to try it. Service was incredible. The crispness was crazy good. My taste b
Amazing exhibition. Beautiful story, both authentic and humbling experience. Being able to walk through this house and hear the historical commentary was like being transported back in time. A must see if you are in the area.
