This place is beautiful. I plan on attending a night hike sometime this summer. Great place to bring the kids and let them see a one room school house. The owners are amazing for keeping up with the place. Beautiful flowers growing, a great place to have weddings, very peaceful and clean. I would recommend anyone come and enjoy the scenery. Make sure to bring cash so you can give a donation as they do not charge to enter.
We LOVE it here. The trails are nice and always clean and quiet. Love the historical buildings. I'm sad the wigwam fell, I hope you can fix it.
Put this in your GPS now even if you can't go right away, if you love hiking and nature this is the place to be visiting! My visit was limited to a small portion of this nature sanctuary due to severe weather and other things. This place is kept tidy, as you enter the drive from the street it feels like you're imposing on someone's property. The driveway is maybe 1/4 mile and there's a small parking lot. There seems to be some sort of indoor facilities, I suspect a gift and information shop, but I hadn't entered. There are plenty of signs indicating which trails you're going to and there are maps and brochures by the building that you pass on the way. I stepped on the trail to be welcomed by a bunch of mosquitos but I pushed on, the trail is well-kept and clean and the fauna is amazing. On this hot day in the 90s I anticipated the mosquitos would be much worse, and as I was wondering why they weren't I caught a glimpse of damselflies all over the place. Since they eat mosquito larvae it seems they were doing their part to keep this park in balance. The sights that I came upon were amazing and I can see why professional photographers would setup professional shoots for clients here. There are benches for resting or just to enjoy the nature around you. I saw a lot of options for the trails and some were themed such as the flower one. I enjoyed going alongside the river, hearing the water moving along the rocks. I sometimes have bad luck with wildlife and once again I heard more than I saw, and I saw more than I could shoot. This hideaway is a hidden gem that I never knew about despite living in Kenosha for many years, and I will definitely be coming back often. I plan to explore every part of this sanctuary & arboretum. Please be mindful and respectful of ongoing restoration projects.
Laura is great to work with! I enjoyed coordinating a wedding here last weekend. It's a gorgeous venue! I want to come back, both for business and on my own simply to explore.
I've loved this place forever but last time I stopped there with a friend some kid working landscaping told me we had to pay $75 to take a picture there... I've taken tons of photos here w professional people and friends alike and have never heard of this, I told the kid that and he replied with, "I'm just trying to be a salesman here, we're a nonprofit place and have ninety acres to take care of" I've never been told by anyone there that this was a thing and I'm pretty sure he's just a landscaper trying to hustle hikers and anyone trying to take photos. So this once super favorite spot I always loved bringing people to and showing was kinda ruined by some jerk trying to hustle us for a buck. Idk if I'll even go back here for hikes anymore. Wondering if the owners are aware of this person trying to make money off of hikers wanting a candid photo at their nonprofit area.
Beautiful area, the autumn leaves look stunning. I absolutely see why people get married here. Gorgeous. I can't believe I've never been here before!
This is such a charming little place and surprisingly peaceful right off a highway. They have multiple great hiking trails, with bridges, babbling brooks & plenty of wildlife. A perfect little retreat not too far away.
The observatory looks like fun. Did not have the opportunity to try it. Great place for a daytime picnic.
