A local suggested we try this place and we went for dinner. After about a 25 minute wait, we were seated by 6:30. Waitress was friendly and efficient although neither she nor the menu provided much guidance for gluten free options. I am not celiac so not as crucial for me but I think the boneless pork ribs had g or msg involved as these do not agree with my stomach. Sides are a choice of tossed salad, rice or macaroni. I think we all had rice and salad. Dishes ordered: stew- great; spicy siemin bowl with noodles- good; boneless ribs were flavorful but for thin cut meat it was very chewy, had lots of grizzle and much was cut off and left on the plate. Didn’t seem like ribs at all. 🙃Tall glasses of water were great. Prices are reasonable.
Long wait for passable food. 30 minute wait on yelp waitlist. Then took about 20 minutes for them to bring out food and another 20 minutes to get the check. Portions were enormous but volcano omelette was very meh. Didn’t finish the saimin. French toast was the only decent dish.
Always so good and tasty! The portions here are HUGE. The vibe is very chill and there is a ton of options. We came for dinner but Breakfast is available too! Friendly service and full bellies. What more could you need?
One of the best places to eat on the big Island! And there is another location in Waimea (breakfast only)
Great place to get Hawaiian food, popular with locals and reasonably priced. The fish coated in macadamia nut panko was delicious and nice and light, and the lechon (crispy pork belly strips) was very good too.
We also got kalua pork nachos to share as a starter, which was some of the best pork we had during our stay, but it was a huge plate and our mains arrived just a few minutes later, so we ended up taking most of that home and eating it for lunch the next day.
We came back a few days later for breakfast, which was also really good. The kalua pork hash was particularly tasty, and the pancakes that came with our breakfasts were huge.
Both times we had a short wait to get seated, as it always seems to be very busy (a good sign), but once inside the service was fast.
Delish! Saimin broth is so clean and Garlic Chicken is crispy perfection. Great service, portions are massive, and the location is ideal. Thanks for the perfect lunch Gayle!
Food is great, cafe is cute, and servers are polite and friendly, if hurried (it gets very busy, so ordering etc feels kind of brusque -- best to maybe review menu before seating so you have a good idea). Definitely a good experience and gets very busy fast (line at opening), so plan accordingly
My first day in Hilo we tried Hawaiian Style Cafe for breakfast. There was a short wait for a nice outdoor table. The dishes were great as was the service. The portions were extremely generous, especially the pancakes that went with my omelette and hash browns!
We spent 2 weeks in Hawai'i and this place was by far our favorite eatery during our stay. We ate here twice while staying overnight in Hilo, once for lunch and again for breakfast. Be warned, this place is very popular; there will be a wait for a table (our first waitress said 45-60 minutes is typical). However once we got to our tables the service is incredibly fast. Everyone here is kind, the food portions are VERY generous, and everything we ate was superb. Like I told my husband: if it’s good enough for Jason, it’s good enough for me! Haha!

I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. I HAVE CELIAC DISEASE AND THIS RESTAURANT DELIVERED. The waiter was literally the most knowledgeable person ever and took so many precautions just for me. He gave me the salad as my side and I took that shrimp with mashed pota
Hawaiian plate Kalua pork and cabbage was delicious, rice sides and Mac salad as well. I also ordered 2 Spam musubi, which were well made and tasty. Lots of items to choose from, cozy seating area. Off the beaten path for tourists, but worth the walk
