My experience at the Hampton Inn was quite underwhelming, leaving me surprised by the mediocre service. While the rooms were tidy and the front desk staff were pleasant, the breakfast situation was far from ideal. On Labor Day, I arrived at 9:30 a.m., hoping to find a variety of hot breakfast options to celebrate the holiday. The breakfast area was filled with happy families enjoying their meals and eagerly waiting for a warm breakfast, but when I reached the hot food section, it was almost empty—no eggs, no potatoes, just bagels and cereal. I even witnessed a young man request more waffle mix, only to be met with a rude response from the breakfast attendant: "we are done!" If breakfast truly ends at 9:30, it would be wise to update the signs around the hotel that indicate breakfast is served from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. Additionally, some customer service training for the kitchen staff would go a long way. It’s disheartening to encounter such poor service at a Hampton Inn. If a hot breakfast isn’t feasible, it would be more honest and reliable to offer a continental breakfast instead of misleading guests about the availability of a hot meal. I spent a good amount on a hotel that advertised a free hot breakfast. If I had realized the service would be so subpar, I would have chosen a more affordable motel instead. It's really disappointing.
I have stayed at this location numerous times over the past 10 years. Unfortunately, my recent stay in July, 2024 for 18 nights was very disappointing. The breakfast was constantly out of foods that they normally have:bananas, waffle mix, yogurt, cottage cheese. One day there was no juice, one day no knives, a few days the toaster was broken. The breakfast attendant wasn't friendly & kept hiding in the back room, & she closed the breakfast area at 9:40 instead of 10am. The pool wasn't always available, as it was rented out to a private swim instructor who gives swimming lessons to non hotel guests. We only requested housekeeping once a week. They never vacuumed the floor. Management didn't seem to care & was never around. The front desk listened to my concerns, but never corrected anything. When I requested to speak to the GM, he was never around & no one had his phone number.
The staff was amazing unfortunately the room was not. First of all there was hair in the shower. The toilet sit was loose. Whoever caulked the shower needs training. The shower head was rusted and old didn’t have correct pressure like it was clogged. The hair dryer was left out. The ironing board was a wreck had to just iron on the bed. Oh, king size bed 3 pillows and the bed was so squeaky and uncomfortable place is due for a remodel
Hotel and room were clean. The pool had some brown sludge going on in it. One of the beds in our room was caved in on one side so there was no sleep happening. The door for the bathroom is also the door for the closet which is interesting but not practical. It does not shut all the way on the bathroom side. It also does not lock. Not sure if I would stay here again. While I appreciate a clean room, I appreciate a bed that isn't busted, more.
Many praises for the staff as they were attentive and extremely helpful. Every request was taken care of quickly and accurately. Communication with the front desk was always pleasant. |My biggest complaint is that the breakfast closed at 10:00 am on Sunday morning. Surely, on a weekend, breakfast should be served until 11:00 am. Also, the wine sold at the counter was sold as big bottles only. I would have bought wine had it been sold in splits or single serve bottles.
I called on 8/8/2924 to confirm early check in for my paid in advance reservation. Because our flights changed unexpectedly due to hurricane Debbie, our LAX flight was arriving earlier than expected to EWR. Talked with a front desk lady on the phone at the Hampton Inn Paramus location. Asked if we could check in early (our original check in was 10am but flight pushed it up to 5:30am); I mentioned this change of plan and the difficulty of traveling with a baby. I asked if it’s possible to check in earlier. The person said yes and that it would be $35 dollars.
This answer was reasonable until we arrived to check in today and the front desk charged us $110 dollars. The front desk blamed the employee I talked to for sharing incorrect policy information. I feel that in itself is in poor taste and reflects bad training on policy and customer service.
Disappointed and saddened that one of favorite lodgings prefers to up-charge customers just because they can. I wanted to find this policy somewhere on the Hampton Inn website and found none. There is information on late check in but early check in and cost of early check in are not visible anywhere. For a long 2 week stay, it definitely feels exorbitant especially since we confirmed over the phone about it.
What would have made me feel valued and appreciated was to honor the $35 charge confirmed over the phone. Instead I was talked down to and given conflicting information. The option of talking with a manager onsite was mentioned by the front desk person, but they immediately said that the manager would not be able to help dispute the early check in fee of $110. We opted to just check in since we were exhausted but it left a bad taste for this stay.
We are tired parents and had to deal with travel changes. These things happen and there should be clearer and physically referenced policy about early check in for future guests so they don’t feel taken advantage of.
Positive: easy check in, pleasant staff, clean spacious room, breakfast Negative: AC control seemd to reset warmer after a few hours
My experience at this hotel was very disappointing. Following a grueling 19-hour drive from Tampa, FL to Paramus, NJ, I arrived exhausted, only to find the bathroom in an unacceptable state, toilet and bathtub were dirty and nasty with remnants of previous guests' hair scattered about, and the towels were visibly worn and soiled. Despite bringing these issues to the attention of the front desk upon my return from a meeting around 6:30 PM the following day, I was met with indifference. The receptionist's offer to change my room on the day of my departure did little to rectify the situation during my stay.
We ordered drinks and pastries for 13 people this morning and everything was absolutely INCREDIBLE. We loved the guava and cheese pastry so much we got another one and the same sitting. I love turmeric so the golden latte really hit the spot. Highly
