A 10/10 experience from start to finish. I love boutique hotels and this was no exception. Valet staff was attentive & helpful. We were lucky enough to get an early check in as we were in town for a wedding. Though rooms were not enormous, they were thoughtfully designed with plenty of storage space & a comfy bench seat (perfect for someone who wants to read a book in a cozy place). The room was also very clean. Location was perfect for walking to anywhere you’d want to go in downtown Newport. Nothing dreamier than a perfect New England hotel! We’ll be back
Rude employees. The front desk staff was not only inconsiderate but not knowledgeable about the area and adversarial to basic questions. The valet staff made me park my own car and move barriers to do so. People could not answer any basic questions. The room was barebones and cheap. The only thing of value here is its location. All else was awful and I will stay anywhere else in Newport. All of the less expensive options in the area I’ve tried were superior. NOT CHEAP for subpar amenities and horrible staff. Will tell everyone I know going to Newport to avoid this hotel.
Hotel is modern and comfortable but only 6 rooms have marina view; the rest look out on a parking lot or inner courtyard. Don’t be fooled by the webpage. No restaurant or bar, but close to restaurants. Easy parking under the hotel . No reason to return. Expensive for what was offered Probably better choices in Newport that offer marina views
Picked this hotel out of many for our first stay in Newport. I was worried about the size of the room per previous reviews and overall dimensions but I really wanted to stay here. I went ahead and booked the room. The woman who I had been communicating with was friendly, accommodating and helpful. Upon arrival, she surprised us with an upgrade to a bigger room with the best view. This is our first vacation without our children,
Kind of a big deal! And my birthday. I was so excited and thankful! Our overall stay was great… however, there is one concern I’d like to express. Please upgrade the mattress and pillows. We turned the mattress around and it was ok but the sleeping situation needed some adjusting. Not trying to downplay the overall stay which was great. Would definitely stay here again.
While location is obviously a plus as it relates to closeness to local shops and restaurants, it can also be a negative as we experienced extreme noise until midnight on several nights while staying in our Marina King room (251) due to the location of the restaurant below and crowds somewhat intoxicated. While I read several other reviews regarding lack of amenities prior to my stay, I found it to be unpleasant having to live out of my suitcase for a week. My partner and I joked about buying a couple of folding lawn chairs and bringing them to our room as well. I must say that the staff and all personnel including the valets were extremely helpful and personable. With that said, I am planning to try out the Breton Hotel during my next visit. It is only a couple of blocks away from the wharf, but the reviews and photos look like we would be much more comfortable and the price is attractive as well.
Let me start by saying, Hammett’s was on my list of stays for quite some time to the point that I didn’t even read the reviews before booking. I finally took the time to read reviews about 2 days before my stay, and I was truly concerned based on the more recent reviews. I’m not sure what these people experienced but I have nothing but great things to say about Hammett’s. The location is perfect for exploring Thames St and all of the wharfs. Everything is extremely walkable, there is a free trolley not too far from the hotel that will take you to the other side of town.
The complaints about the cost of parking, sure it’s pricey but you’re going to either pay to park here or struggle to park elsewhere and probably still pay a hefty fee. We left our car after checking out for an extra $20 and enjoyed a full day before leaving. The decor is modern but not overly nautical, everything is clean and modern. We appreciated the water dispensers on every floor, huge perk when staying so bring your own refillable bottle. The deck is fun to hang on, catch the sunset, etc, but be ware of seagulls doing their business (speaking from experience, hopefully it brings good luck!). We did not have any issues with noise whatsoever (room 304!) coming from the restaurant below. The blackout curtains are insane, we had no idea what time it was when sleeping and we loved it.
Overall, the staff was friendly and welcoming, no issues there. No issues with billing, you’re staying in a coastal town in the summer so if you’re not willing to pay for it then the town isn’t for you. I would reccomend Hammett’s to anyone looking to visit Newport. Take the bad reviews with a grain of salt and visit for yourself!
Perfectly located in the center of all the activities with modern and clean rooms, we thoroughly enjoyed our three nights at Hammetts Hotel. In addition to the great location (we walked to many restaurants and excursions and happily left the car parked), the hotel’s staff was the highlight of our stay.|Carlos provided us numerous recommendations and each night greeted us, ensuring everything was perfect. He turned on the fireplace and outside heaters for us while recommending where to buy the best bottle of wine to enjoy on the promenade deck.|When next in Newport, we’ll certainly return to Hammetts.
The room was ok. Kind of small, but comfortable enough. It would have been nice to have a fridge.
Valet parking staff was great. The front desk staffer was rude. I walked in from the rain carrying a wet bag. The desk guy informed me that the hotel did not have a public bathroom and looked skeptical when I told him I would use the one in my room. It seems you are not supposed to use the front door unless you have just stepped off your yacht.
The location is nice. Next time I’ll try one of the zillion other hotels there.
Stayed here for our 1 night getaway to Newport. We stayed in the Cottage room and it was nicely private, clean and spacious. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The staff were are very pleasant and hospitable. The location makes you feel like youâr
