First- no category for our type of visit: a small group of students on a field study course in Hawaii.||From other reviews it seems that owners may have changed. Current owners are a doctor and his wife Nataliya and their son. They live next door but the doctor has offices in two other towns on the rock as well. We dealt with Nataliya before arriving and had excellent communications throughout. VRBO was our booking.||Although it is a three bedroom, three bath B&B we were able to rent all three rooms with two of us also able to sleep on a bed on the deck outside- great night's sleep. There is a somewhat busy road out front but the traffic quits long before evening. Be aware, there are ducks, finches, and a host of birds I cannot name in the area. Mixed with crickets it creates a pleasant background to fall asleep to. (Sorry for the dangling preposition) Nonetheless, some may prefer no sounds.||Very comfortable and well equipped, with a short walk to either of two beaches- Hilo style beaches, not Kona. We had very easy access back to the farmers market, Lyman museum, groceries and restaurants. A pond out back is a nice touch. No issues with insects during this late May visit.||One night the clouds broke at sunset and we got a great view of the volcano and observatories from the back deck as the sunset went through its color changes. Very nice touch.

We had a fantastic stay at Hale Lamalama Ka'ili. Amber and Trevor were extremely warm and welcoming really going beyond what we expected. By the time we left, we felt like they were family.||||We had never stayed at a B&B with our twin boys and they absolutely loved the experience. They still cite it as one of their top experiences on the vacation. There were so many things for them to see and do right on the property itself. There were fish and birds at the lovely pond, big parrots roosting in a cage out back, geckos scooting around outside (as they are everywhere on the island), and they even have a couple of very cute little dogs (which Amber and Trevor keep to themselves unless they see that you are comfortable with having them around). There are fruit trees, pineapples, and other things growing in their gardens. They had a foosball table and ping pong to use and even offered to let us borrow some beach gear.||||We stayed for two nights in the room with two double beds. It was plenty spacious and comfortable for us though the beds might be a little tighter for four full adults. It's on the upper floor so involves a couple flights of stairs but Trevor graciously helped with the luggage. There is a nice master bath off the suite and they offered use of the Jacuzzi tub on the main floor if we wanted it. There was a good breeze and ceiling fans so there was no need for AC. The property borders a road but it doesn't see many cars in the overnight hours and you can close the windows on that side worst case.||||They offered us free use of the main floor - kitchen, living room, and lanai - so it was almost as if you had a condo. Everything was very nicely kept and the lanai in particular was just awesome overlooking the pond and back gardens.||||For us the location was very convenient - just outside Hilo downtown, close the airport, close to Banyan Drive and Liliuokalani Gardens, not far from shopping, and with several beach parks just down the road. Amber also said that side of Hilo tends to see a few less showers which seemed to be true from what we saw. We did have a couple showers but it just made the green pop that much more when the sun came out. ||||The breakfasts were lovely out on the lanai. They cooked some hot breakfast items but also had an extensive set of local fruits (the bananas and papayas were from the trees on the property), yogurts, breads/bagels, and juices. They were very keen to honor any dietary needs and actually went exploring at the farmers market to find some special things for us. The kids still rave about the breakfasts!

This may look serene, but if you want to assaulted with noise pollution, this is the place! They have super noisy caged birds that scream out all times of the day, and they can't stop with the motors. They sculpt the grounds with mowers, weed trimmers, and more for several hours a day for several days a week. They even are so "in harmony" with nature that they are filling in part of the precious wetlands on the property. Let's not forget that the two lane street right next to it has its own noise pollution. If they got rid of the birds, preserved the wetlands instead of destroying it, and kept landscaping to one day a week, it would be a winner. As it is... its a place to lose you last nerve trying to relax.

I was looking for a place to stay on the Hilo side of the island where we could explore that whole side in just 3 days and that had wifi. I liked the location because it was in Hilo, just 1 mile or so outside of downtown. Traffic was minimal and we could get to Hawaii Volcano Natl. Park in 30-40 min. and also up north of Hilo to Akaka Falls, Umauma Falls and even up to the Waipio Valley Lookout in about 1hr. The room was as advertised and was very nice. The bed was great (and I'm picky!) and the bathroom was big and spacious. It was everything I had hoped for except for 1 thing. I expected the breakfast to be the norm but it wasn't--it was better than we could have dreamed!! The best part of our experience here was actually Dave and his cooking! First, he asked if he could make us Eggs Benedict the first morning. It was beyond fabulous! Then he asked us if we would like to have dinner when we got back the next night. He asked what we would like and we love seafood so we told him to make what ever he wanted. He made us the most incredible meal of fresh seafood (swordfish) with a pineapple salsa that was to die for! He only asked we pay for the items he purchased which was the cost of a fast food meal. This meal would have cost us $75-100 in a local restaurant! He made us a 2nd dinner that was equally delicious and more breakfasts of omelets and fruits. I could go on for days how much we appreciated Dave and his cooking but I'll stop here and tell you, TRY this place. It is so worth it!! Thank you Dave for keeping our bellies happy and our pocketbook in tact!!

Casual island elegance and the best meal we have ever had: Chef David prepared a world-class dinner of swordfish, scallops in an indulgent coconut milk sauce, grilled zucchini and pineapple chutney that we did not want to end! We found paradise at the nearby natural beachfront hot springs and the cliff jump at the southernmost tip of the United States. Heaven on Hilo!

This was an excellent place to stay. The breakfasts were amazing, the grounds are incredible, the location is great and the rooms are cute. The details are very clear and straightforward on the website. The lack of A/C was not a problem for us.

So thankful we stayed here, got a completely different and intimate experience from our first half of our stay in Waikoloa. Our room was right off of the front porch so we had a nice area to sit and unwind before dinner each evening. Brian and his wi

I was able to drop in while visiting town and had a great time. The staff, coaches, and training partners were friendly and welcoming, and the gym has a great atmosphere. Great place to train in Hilo.
