Gunter's Restaurant - American restaurant in South San Francisco - 1057 El Camino Real, USA

I'm a big fan of corned beef hash for breakfast and keep a look out for places that use actual chunks of corned beef instead of the ground up stuff from a can. Gunter's is one of the former but make sure you ask for the home-made version as it's a $1 upgrade or something from the standard stuff. The corned beef itself is delicious and they give you a generous portion that's been broiled. My only minor complaint is that it's just corned beef, no onions or peppers mixed in which would have brought it from a generous 8 to a 9 or 10. Pretty sure I'll ask for that next time I'm in town as I'll definitely be back to visit. My wife and MIL got a giant salad and a more typical breakfast (eggs, sausage, etc.) which were both decent but nothing that they loved. The staff was friendly and the coffee was good. There's a fair amount of parking and a lot of what looked like regular customers. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Amazing diner in San Francisco, with a HUGE menu. We tried the Carne Asada (phenomenal), a side salad, a Taco Salad with Chicken (massive) and were talked into the Fried Banana. So thankful we were. The food was delicious, the service was warm and caring, and I will be having the fried banana every time I visit. I can't wait to try something new next time we go!

My partner and I love good ole american diners, and I will say- this diner is perfect. The drip coffee is fantastic, and I'm really picky about drip. The food is always amazing and the staff remember us, and the chef himself is a sweetheart as well. A great communal space with great food and good people coming in and out, enjoying our day. It's always a real treat eating here. One of our favorite go-to's whenever we decide to eat out.

You guys, this $15 breakfast sandwich is a dream. Get cheddar & an over medium egg in lieu of the scrambled, to make it PERFECTION. Gunter’s has been here a long time, and goes very strong on keeping the Bay Area vibes alive & well. The place is clean but old school. Don’t expect some foofoo millennial decor; they keep it real here. Good service, quality ingredients, and accessible to everyone.

Not 5, but a solid 4 stars restaurant. Good size portions, staff working to serve and please, food prepared promptly. Atmosphere is not great, but it's good. Prices are higher than before the pandemic, but what isn't. Still a good ROI. Veteran/military discount, now only during weekdays. Much appreciated.

This place used to be better? The older blonde waitress is not friendly. I ask for slices of banana s on my pan cakes? They come with a ton of whip cream ,and powdered sugar like im an 8 yr old kid I'm almost 60 and Gunter's is not( I-Hop). All she could say was "well it's in the menu like that". It was over 40 bucks s for two orders of short stack pan cakes. Don't go here.

Sorry guys ...it's time. Wrap it up. Me and my lady came for breakfast and each got Benedicts. Crab and Cajun Benedict. There was a generous amount of crab for this dish👍🏻. The eggs were a bit overdone and not runny. The English muffin was not toasted and was soggy when it arrived. The hollandaise sauce was overly thick as well. Lastly the hash browns...1/10. It was like mashed potatoes with a crust. The atmosphere is rundown. Popcorn ceiling with looking like mold coming from the vents. Deteriorating interior furniture as well. Great friendly floor staff but have to turn the kitchen staff around. If you want to get people to come back, you have to quality check your food. It seems the staff is fine with the bare minimum and less. Shut it down and reconstruct. Or just call it.

Food and service was great, will definitely come back for more!
