This historic hotel is definitely worth a visit, especially if you're coming off the great Allegheny passage trail. You can wind down and dine, grab some beverages or go to the brewery nearby, then relax in your room and an excellent coffee bar in the lobby in the morning. Highly recommend
We knew the hotel was historic and looked forward to its unique character based on some reviews. All was fine on arrival - quaint lobby, little coffee bar, cute restaurant adjoined. I was a little confused when she said that the doors are locked at 9:00pm for the “residents living there,” but decided that added to its quirkiness. After parking in the back lot, we walked through the funhouse basement with varying degrees of fascination and incredulity over the “exhibits” - btw the Speakeasy and coal mine are super cool. But making our way to our room on the 2nd floor felt like The Shining - old red carpet, dark narrow hallway, exposed wires on old light fixtures. And our room itself was small and musty, with popcorn ceiling, one ceiling fixture, rock-hard bed, tiny bathroom - about like my childhood room at Grandma’s house. Exploring the rest of the 2nd floor, we noticed that ours was the only room that wasn’t a residence, and that the end of each hall had a cool little iron balcony - complete with mold and full ashtrays.|We didn’t expect the Four Seasons, but had some expectation of comfort - tbh we couldn’t have spent more than 5 minutes in our room without a feeling of impending doom. They need to either convert the entire building to residences or do a major rehab. No one should pay to stay here as a “guest.”
We visited after bicycling on the GAP TRAIL. The lunch and drinks were great , service was very attentive , a very nice atmosphere in the bar / restaurant of this historic hotel!! We recommend coming to the Gunter Hotel!! The Main Street shops worth visiting also in beautiful Frostburg, Maryland !!!
The Gunter calls itself an "historic' hotel. I think that's just to cover up all its flaws: run down and badly in need of paint--and cleaning--plus a surly staff.| We arrived before scheduled check-in and the receptionist was quite annoyed we were there before the appointed time. She warmed up enough to give us our room which was dingy and beyond spartan. There was only one bedside table although we were checked into a double, and the only light other than the harsh overhead was so dim, it was like a night light. The room could have used a deep cleaning and more. And it was only as we were crawling into bed that we realized one window lacked any shades so we were woken by bright light earlier in the morning than we would have wished (it was, after all, close to the longest day of the year). The room was also lacking a hair dryer.| When we checked out, we mentioned these missing items to the receptionist (a different one from the day before but even more surly). She said that the hotel already knew that. Interesting, I said, that they'd still give us that room (when there were plenty others to be had; hotel was not crowded and we did not, as I said above, check in late). The receptionist just shrugged and said, "I'm only making minimum wage." | Bottom line: find somewhere else to stay.
Historic hotel in downtown Frostburg. Nice room with excellent mattress. Small bathroom. No chair or desk in room. Coffee is in the lobby as well as ice. Parts of the hotel are in disrepair. Nice bar and bier garden available. Limited check in time window.
Historic building with modern beds and toilets. The beds are actually comfortable, firm with out the hammock design. Small museum downstairs. This place is a must see.
This place was such a unique stay! We needed a night and didn't expect this place to be an experience! The hotel is so beautiful and we absolutely loved the friendly staff. The restaurant had great food and drinks. The room we stayed in was the Roy Clark room (not haunted btw) 😆 the only thing I have to complain about was the mattress. It was way too firm for my liking. The jail in the basement was cool along with all the other artifacts.
We took the train ride into Foxburg. Traveled up the hill to Gunter hotel for food. Service was horrible. I ordered a chicken salad and my husband got a burger. We waited 1/2 hr for our food. It was great seeing the people who came in after us by 5min enjoy their food, while we still waited. The salad was very small for $15. Very disappointed!
I have found brunch heaven. The free bagel sandwiches and coffee are to die for (and itâs hard to find a good gluten-free bagel because Iâve tried)! The eggs and caramelized onions on the sandwich were perfection. If youâre in the greater Frost
Pizza and wings were surprisingly REALLY good. Came across this place while we were headed to Deep Creek Lake and saw that they had good reviews. We got the medium pizza, garlic butter and spicy BBQ wings. They were super crispy and juicy. I would de
This is a fantastic place to bring your dogs to allow them to get some running in. Allows your doggos a chance to interact with other well behaved doggos and learn to be social. There is 2 very large fenced in areas for free roam of the puppers, as w
Delicious pizza and wedges. Highly recommend the steak wedge. Chicken Parm wedge was 3/5 but steak was 5/5! 3 wedges was sufficient to split between 2 adults Friendly staff, offers outdoor dining with a nice view.
We visited Savage River Lodge for a film shoot and had the most wonderful time. The scenery & accommodations were amazing and the staff were all top-notch 5-stars. While on set we spoke with the owner, the kindest man and very supportive of us being
Food was delicious. We had the crab dip appetizer, seafood pasta salad and crab cakes with roasted potatoes. Everything was delicious and our sever Daphne was the best. Can't wait to go back. I didn't take a picture of the crab dip appetizer but it
We came here as a family to celebrate our Mom's birthday. Food was great across the board. And everyone was welcoming. Our server (Ava) was professional, accommodating, and very personable. 10/10 would recommend.
