While exploring in the area and needing dinner we stopped here since it was so highly rated. The chicken enchilada soup was excellent. Our waitress was amazing. The food was absolute worst I’ve ever had. And with a $50 food bill that was a bummer. My husband got the brisket and pork belly. The pork belly was salted, which is absolutely not necessary as it’s so salty on its own. Very hard to eat. The brisket was so dry, and tough. I had the cowboy burger which I asked for medium and it was burnt, therefore super dry. And the brisket on top again tough and dry. Again our waitress was amazing, very attentive and wonderful all around. Outside patio is cute and was nice to enjoy. Wouldn’t recommend this place unfortunately. If you actually know what good food is, this is not the place (unless you get soup!).

I recently had the opportunity to try the Scandinavian burger at Grumpy Troll and was blown away by the unique and delicious flavor combination. The burger features a juicy patty topped with tangy lingonberry sauce, creamy dill sauce, and crispy bacon, all on a soft bun. The flavors worked together perfectly, creating a truly one-of-a-kind burger experience. The atmosphere at Grumpy Troll is also great, with a cozy and inviting space that makes for a comfortable dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend giving the Scandinavian burger at Grumpy Troll a try if you're in the mood for something different and delicious.

Have been here quite a few times over the years, and a lot more recently. Specifically for Friday fish fry. The fish fry is great if you can get it. Sells out by 8pm if not before. :( The food most of the time is great or above average. I have only been disappointed maybe once out of ten times with the food. The beer is usually on point! Good beer selections...some are really good, and some are meh...but still worth trying for sure! Staff are friendly and accommodating. During busy times expect a bit of a wait. Overall good value for beer and food for the good quality they are providing.

I ordereda hamburgerwithout a bun, and it came out with a bun, and the waiter said oh i forgot to write that down, so it was sent back.I waited another 45 minutes for my hamburger, and it was raw. The waiter was not apologetic and seemed annoyed. I was upset.

My Horeb is a cute little village just outside of Madison. The toll capital of the world, which is worth a visit in and of itself! This eatery, which is named in support of the local tradition is located in the heart of downtown. It’s a cool spot, but the vibe was just off, at least when we went. Service was very attentive and nice enough, but I just felt like there was this odd tension in the air, even on a very quiet and slow Friday night. And maybe that was it, not many patrons on a Friday evening for dinner, can make a place feel slightly off. Food was ok. Not bad by any means, but nothing that had me anxiously awaiting the next bite or sad when it was gone. The beer was decent too, they have awards all over the walls, so they must be good. I have heard great things, so was excited to try. I guess the single best word to sum up our experience is “underwhelmed.” I wasn’t disappointed, but don’t think I’ll be in a rush to get back.

I previously made reservations online but then had 3 more that asked to join us on arrival. The staff were very kind and accommodating to add the extra seating. Our food was excellent! Perhaps our waiter was new to serving- we were his only table- he didn't offer to refill drinks or collect dishes. He was friendly and it all worked out in the end. We will definitely be back!

I have eaten in this restaurant probably over 50 times throughout the years. It was always one of my favorite hamburgers in Dane County. We just went in there at 3:30 on a Tuesday afternoon so it was very slow. When we sat down we waited and waited and waited for service until I finally had to ask for someone to wait on us. The bartender ended up waiting on us and seemed annoyed in having to do so. We were very disappointed to see the grump chips were taken off the menu. I thought that was one of the specialties the restaurant was known for. We asked about it and he said it wasn't his decision. I ordered my favorite burger, the Grumpy Troll and asked for it medium rare. It arrived well done. I would have complained but we never once were checked on to see how our food was. Again, it was very slow and when we did see an employee, they were just standing around but couldn't take the time to check on us. I figured with Buck and Honey's opening across the street that they would be stepping up their game, but just the opposite. I wish we would have gone there instead. I left a one dollar tip which I've never done before. As I said, this restaurant had been a favorite. Doubt I will be back now.

They have pork belly!! It was great! Also have the chicken tortilla soup. Also great! Was early so didn’t have any adult beverages but I imagine they’re good. Highly recommend this local place! These are their cornbread muffins!

Had a great visit to the historium recently! It’s a little text heavy but really well done. We learned a lot and had a great couple of hours here. Centrally located in the downtown area, it was super easy to find a good restaurant for lunch after.

Everything was delicious! I heard so much around town about the Mushroom Bisque soup. It was hands down the best Mushroom Bisque I’ve ever had! We also indulged in the Scallops, Korean BBQ Sticky Ribs, the Artichoke Dip (also the best I’ve ever h
