The food is incredible. Never heard of a turkey rib before. Took the cooks advice and tried it. You should too.
Great venue. Had a wonderful time. Parking isn't great but I was able to find a spot. Service and menu is wonderful.
This place needs to alert people about the parking on their website. No where online or on social media does it warn you of extremely limited parking nor does it tell you where you could park without being towed away! DO BETTER GROWLERS! Actually have on your website and social media about the parking, any policies, etc. It would make for a much better experience.
The bartender was amazing though. He did fantastic with my drink orders. The bands was great too. However the experience was dulled beyond comparison coming out to find a very horrible tow company took my car.
Great place. Lots of fun and good comedians. It was very cold that night so attendance was down.
I went up there to see Colony House this past Saturday and everything was great till I went to get my check. The bartender I had been ordering from throughout the night was really busy so I asked this lady that was behind the bar thinking she could help me only thing I said “Hey, excuse me. When you get a minute I just need my check.” She looked at me with a very unpleasant look and said sternly ‘I’ll be with you in a minute’.
They both went on checking out other people that came up to the bar after me and the lady was just looking at me as they were checking out people instead of me. My girlfriend came up cause she saw what was going on and the lady went to her and started serving my girlfriend instead of me cause she didn’t know we were together.
When my girlfriend said she was with me the lady looked at both of us and then said to us ‘I said I would be with him in a minute’ and just stopped helping her. It was mind blowing that one of your employees could be so rude and so disrespectful. The guy that was the bartender that I had been ordering from that night finally stepped in and got us checked out cause at that point it was about to be a big issue.
If you are wondering the lady that I am talking about had brown hair and was thin, I think she had glasses but not 100% on that.
I have been to your establishment many times and never experienced anything like that. I would hope that you read this message and take some disciplinarian action against this person cause I will not be back after this. Best of luck to you all and maybe try to hire better employees.
This is a very good venue, but to take it over the top they need to eliminate the negative space: either wall off the closet behind the pinball room or open it up to more floor/seating space. Then, either go all in in the pool room with another table or two, and maybe a live feed of the stage, or, again, open to more seating.
EDIT: My trip last week to see the Melvins reveals a lot of good changes! Growlers is one of the best venues in the city!!!
Growlers has a dark, gritty atmosphere that matches many of the bands who play there. The aesthetic is solid, with a somewhat "hole in the wall" feel to it. Typical for such concert venues is the excessively loud speakers that make it painful on the ears and impossible to talk to others, much less hold a conversation. The staff can barely hear you if you shout at them, so just type what you want into your phone and show it to the bartender. Bring a pair of earplugs!
Tickets can generally be purchased online beforehand or at the door. The online processing fee makes prices comparable for whichever option you choose.
There are only a few tables and barstools, but most people choose to stand. There's no mosh pit, but the area closest to the band usurps the role of a pit well enough.
The drink selection is solid, including a few canned wine and seltzer options. Prices are not too expensive. There are a few food options for those looking to slow the absorption of the alcohol, but don't expect anything fancy. The kitchen closes well before the end of the shows, as is customary.
There is a covered open-air rear area for hanging out, smoking, and vaping. Somebody is always smoking weed, so be ready for that smell.
My main suggestion for all these types of venues is always the same: turn the speakers down! They are so loud that it distorts the music and bleeds the ears. Otherwise it's a great place for small-venue concerts.
Two shows in one - first & last. 5 parking spots in front, maybe 15 down the side, and if you park anywhere else near the place your car will get towed by a rather unscrupulous towing company and you won't get it back until the next day. Put this info on your website or social media, not on a piece of paper at the bottom of the front door (that's propped open where you won't see it).
Never again Growlers.
I'm editing this review after it was made known to me that Growlers is now warning about the parking situation (on FB). Be mindful there are a lot of us that aren't on FB. Either way, lesson learned, but PB&J can still kiss my...
