Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar - American restaurant in New Braunfels - 1287 Gruene Rd, USA

Great location in a wonderful small town. Yay good, terrific bloody Mary, and fantastic jalapeno poppers. Be warned though, the facility is not ADA friendly with many steps, closed doors, and uneven floors. Staff were young and some helped my elderly parents but others outright refused. While I still recommend visiting, management should increase their training on helping the elderly.

This was an amazing place. I highly recommend it if you do not mind waiting. The food was great and the atmosphere was so pretty at night with the lights. I am going back definitely. I got a burger and fries but they were good and my friend got the chicken fried steak. Very good! The wait was 40 minutes for a table but it flew by because of the guitarist playing music.

We were here on a Saturday in mid-January about 1pm. The place was hopping. Atmosphere- huge fireplaces with real firewood going (it was in the 40’s). Haven’t been here in 20 years. Food was as I remembered it…AWESOME! Chicken Fried Steak with fries plus cold beer. Beautiful views. Would have liked less people but service was great & food came out quickly.

It’s rare that I give 5 stars to a restaurant but this place deserved it. Its location is perfect with the river right next to it and the trees surrounding the area. The service was fantastic, very knowledgeable of the menu/specials and very attentive. The food was delicious with good flavors. Would recommend the chopped steak and the green beans were so good.

We visited on Saturday night on Labor Day weekend, so there was quite a wait. We waited for about an hour, but there was a nice open area to hang out in. They also had some drinks for sale and a bathroom in that area. It was quite a peaceful wait. I was honestly not expecting what the restaurant was like. It is apparently made from the ruins of an old cotton mill. Therefore, seating is outside. The food and atmosphere were great! I had the Fresh Trout, which had a really good seasoning on it. My husband had the ribs, which were very tender and had a good sauce. Their Bloody Mary was also very good! It's definitely a place I would want to go again, but maybe not on a holiday weekend. We did notice that the poor waiters had to put up with a lot of people camping out at tables long after they were done, with so many people waiting for a table.

This place was beautiful and staff was on the spot. Did the online waitlist and pretty much went straight to the table. Outside seating as it was in the side of the hillside with the rustic style and natural views that added to the experience. Steak was cooked to perfection, round steak fries were great though in my mind I expected chip by the look vs fries, and the Jack Daniel's pecan pie is a must.. perfect texture and taste with the hint of Jack Daniel's taste not overpowering the delicious pecan taste.

Gruene is a hopping area in New Braunfels with lots to do from shopping to dining to listening to live music. Yesterday my husband and I had a nice lunch at the Gristmill River Restaurant and Bar in Gruene. The Gristmill, a historic 1878 cotton gin turned restaurant, is a must-visit dining experience in Gruene. We arrive a bit later around 1:30 and were quickly seated inside. There is also nice outdoor seating if that's your pleasure. We had a couple delicious burgers and sides. We received excellent service from Seth, who was very attentive and personable. Thank you, Gristmill! (Went again when the grandkids came for a visit...great restaurant!)

Never been in the cute quaint beautiful town area. So much to see and do. This restaurant is amazing. So cool on the inside. Old cotton gin mill or something like that. Food was 10 out of 10. Chicken fried steak top notch. Good cold beers. Deep fried jalapeños OMG. Even the salad with ranch was worth every bite. So will be coming back!
