Well maintained, not crowded and easy going. Playground is newly upgraded. Basketball court rims have all newly replaced chain nets, though the backboards are old and rusted still very much playable .

We are original owners of a house on the first street (Hartford Ave) ever built in 1969. Grissom Park was established after that by about a year. My children loved the park
while growing up, especially as it was so close to home It took many years before playground equipment was added. However the cleanliness of the park is well maintained. It appears to be a very safe, restful area to enjoy. I was just down there this very afternoon, as a matter of fact, visiting with an old friend.
We visited for several hours, quite safely, on a very comfortable day weatherwise. We saw a lot of parents picking up/dropping off their children but never did the park look too busy or unsafe.
Take my dog in the morning. Its quiet.
It was a good experience. We went in the afternoon to take our dogs for a walk and there seemed to be more of a younger crowd, all they were doing was going to sit on one of the tables and smoke marijuana. There were other cars parked in the parking lot, it seemed like couple go there in the evening time to spend time together. Nevertheless our dogs enjoyed their time running around since the park was empty other than those kids sitting on the bench and the couples in their cars.
It's one of the few parks you can just kick it in your car and relax . They have just recently installed gates to close the park at sundown so just FYI
New toys aren't as fun as the old one's. Also, wasting money for pulling out old slides, for new ones, when those same funds could have been better used to paint the parking lot lines, more picnic tables, trash cans, more toys(instead of 4th remodel of same play area in 20yr), and most annoying feature of this park.... parking lot entrance!
*Must make a sharp right turn, off of White Ln. , which has a traffic flow, ranging from: Noticable, to Heavy, & 40mph-55mph increases the potential of being rear-ended from the often, Complacent, Unaware & Semi-Comatose drivers either in Auto-Piolet, or in full NASCAR mode.
** Widen the parking lot entrance!
Add:
another baseball backstop, more water fountains, more seating around the park, and a bathroom opposite of the playground.
I love this park plenty of room toys and shade. I items in my truck to take to goodwill and couldn't because of covid and there are a few men and women that are doing poorly at this time and I was able to give them the items. It made me feel good that I was able to help them out. They were appreciative as well
It's close and easy to get to. The camp ground is very nice with alot of trees and the sound of the river, (especially at night when going to sleep), is very peaceful. They have brand new bathrooms and showers . Loved this place will definitely be ba
I can't tell u enough how much I love hiking up and down the bluffs ð family fun! My dog loves it! Really great...my little get away that's just down the street from my pad.
We had a great time playing at the Spray park with my 3 year old daughter. It is pretty busy during the weekend. There is always a birthday party ðððð going on so I think people must reserve the place. Great place to bring your little one
I'm not from bakersfield but seeing this place was magical, the ducks being fed by people, the beauty of the area was honestly breath-taking. It was very lovely experience and I plan to come back with my little family.
It was my first time going here to attend a birthday party and I was immediately stricken with awe, I saw people playing and walking their dogs and children happily at play with their parents, it was a beautiful sight and heartwarming to say the leas
Stopped for dinner in Bakersfield on our way to San Jose. We enjoyed some pupusas - shrimp for hubby & loroco (squash flower) for me. The chicken tamal was very fluffy and had more of a spongy texture. The plantain empanadas were very rich and creamy
