Great Island Trail - Hiking area in Wellfleet - 1440 Chequessett Neck Rd, USA

Amazing not crowded trail through dunes with breathtaking views of the ocean with secluded beach that stretches for miles. You could take your dog there for part of it as there is a point where dogs are forbidden due to nesting birds.

My wife and I took a 3 mile round trip along the Great Island Trail which is part of the National Seashore. This area has awesome views of the ocean and what looks like miles of deserted beaches. During the summer months it can get pretty warm, so I suggest being water.

Great November hike for a sunny day. Lots of dogs, will be walking on soft sand for parts of it.

There were many great reviews for this trail and I csn definitely understand why. The trail is simply breathtaking. There's a nice balance between trees and forest vistas vs the beach and ocean. The hike through sand is definitely harder than it sounds and looks. The hike is about 4 to 9 miles give or take depending which trail you follow. We took the shorter trail as we were with novice hikers. I will definitely be back to hike the longer trail next time.

Spectacular views. Lots of wildlife in the water and on the water line. It was a fun hike. Had to ditch the shoes and go barefoot because the sand was so deep at points. Very scenic hike. Moderate hike only due to the elevation changes. Best kept secret of cape cod!

So beautiful! We discovered this place by accident just driving around. Gorgeous marsh and low waters. Primarily for hiking although we saw 1 kayaker at high tide. Wear closed toed shoes because there is a lot of salt hay lining the paths.

If you are going out to check for cold stunned sea turtles ( Nov-Dec) , check with NOAA weather buoy stationed in Cape Cod Bay, available online. Turtles start to become sluggish after water temperatures drop below 50 degree. We did this on Nov 25-23 it in five hours sans the Tavern Loop. It would be interesting to see the distance that does not include the Tavern Loop, instead straight out from the Great Trail Parking lot out to Jeremy Point. More useful information for Turtlers. Check tides as well for safe passage to and back from Jeremy Point Island. Do not disturb seal colony at the southern tip, keeping a respectful distance.---SWL
