We visited early morning and hiked the trails. We saw turtles, snakes and squirrels on the trail along with costal birds. My favorite was watching the lift bridge raise and all the informational markers on the paths. The museum was closed. We will visit during the week to learn more about the great Bridge history.

Another little gem found while geocaching. A nice trail around the area, historic signage all the way around, interesting museum, and very pretty views of the canal. I didn't take the Marsh Walk, because I wanted lunch. It looked interesting though, and probably very pretty down there. Accessible to all, and worth an hour of your time.

Love this park! There are several types of peaceful trails to choose from that take you along the marsh, into the woods, or along the water. There is also a paved trail in front of the museum. It's quiet, clean, and family-friendly with plenty of spots to sit and relax and take in nature. The museum is informative and interesting for us history buffs.

The Battle of Great Bridge is an overlooked event in the Revolutionary War that was actually quite important. Historically, though it was a short and small battle, it was America's first resounding victory in the Revolutionary War. It was also the only battle where Americans suffered no loss of life. But why was the battle important? Why should anyone care? One, it showed that Colonial Patriots had the capability to fight and win. Two, and probably more importantly, it kept supply lines from North Carolina to Virginia and beyond, open. Had the British won, the Revolution may have ended very differently and much sooner.

For size, museum packs of goods punch. It does a great job telling the story of the area.

This is a great park. Nice trails, plenty of parking, lots of spot to fish, watching the boats go past, if you walk further back on the trails you can go under the by-pass bridge which is really cool, trail is well maintained and clean, there are two portable toilets for bathroom use, stand for dog poop bags, and mostly shaded. Great park and will be back. Trail is probably like 1.5 miles roughly. No hills and easy to walk.

We arrived in time to watch the drawbridge go up to let a boat through. The museum was full of interesting information, including a double screen video of the battle. The gift shop offers a variety of unique items. Before leaving we walked through the grounds. A great overall experience.

Excellent park on the intercoastal waterway, abundant seating for picnics and view the large boats and marine traffic passing through the lock system. I'm currently writing a article for a UK based history publisher on the "Battle of Great Bridge". There is a museum and self guided tour here about this revolutionary battle which took place 6 months before the war became official.

The newly remodeled Court House is looking fantastic. Shannon made me a refreshing Tito's and Lemonade and I had the Chicken Salad Club sandwich which was the best I've ever had. The Broccoli salad was a surprise delight that came with the sandwich.
