Good place for winter sports activities! Had a very good experience with skiing ⛷️… Although I was in the elementary level there are some space for learners! I had a great time, and fantastic experience with skiing!! Receptionists are really helpful and friendly! They explains everything in details with happy face… There is a ski area with trails and tubing park! Good restaurant inside for pizza, burgers, fries and drinks with reasonable price….. Overall, it was a great Saturday..
The family and I enjoy this resort, we will continue to ski here a cpl times a year. My advice to would be patrons would be to bring your own food, the staff at the food court are not the fastest, and its expensive (typical for a ski resort, or anywhere for that matter!). Lastly, the tubing hill was a lot of fun but the vast majority of our time was spent waiting in line to tube. I think we tubed the hill 5 times in 4 hours.
I have been in the area for work and looking for some decent hiking. This area isn't huge but does have some nice elevation gains and some well laid out paths. A couple areas are very steep, but usually for less than a tenth of a mile. I have only been here over the past few weeks in summer, so I can't speak to winter. The trails can get muddy after rain the day before. Overall a very nice little hiking spot with some nice views. You can usually see jets from the nearby base if you have kids that like that.
Love to take the dogs out here to burn off their energy! It doesn’t matter what season it is. Very pet friendly!
Looking for a quick getaway from winter's doldrums that's local to Sioux Falls South Dakota? Here it is. Great Bear Ski Valley and hiking Park has a fair number of amenities for a local ski park. The hill isn't big but it still is challenging for most skiers. From beginners (lessons available for Skiing, Shredding) to intermediate and somewhat advanced down-hill'ers, this is a terrific park. There is even some terrain dedicated to hikers and Telemark skiing. I guess one could even snowshoe here? Even if you are an expert skier, this property is nice just to get some turns or a little vertical in until you can get out to a larger property. The hill even offers a tubing alternative for those that do not care to ski or board or just want something different. The food is typical cafeteria style offerings but one is not allowed to bring in foods/drink from outside. The hours and pricing is pretty decent and I suggest that you check for specials on their site for occasional half priced events. Great news, this is one of the few venues that offers military discounts! Additionally they have rentals of skis, boots, poles, headgear, Snowboards, tubing tubes and they sell a number of accessories (goggles and the like) in case you forgot yours. The Skiing equipment is decent considering it's rental gear. Most is pretty up to date gear. I liked the night time skiing as the hill and the beginners area were well groomed and well lit up. So for a local or a quick getaway spot, give this a try this (or any) winter. I probably should have mentioned this from the beginning, the staff here are very nice and helpful folks. They answer questions repeatedly and patiently and that's hard to do hundreds of times a day/night. The hill is mostly staffed with High School and some college folks so experience isn't always up there but the desire to help mostly is. I would like to see the Beginners Carpet lift given some much needed TLC. The on/off sections are barely adequate and potential dangerous bottle-necks occurred while we were there. Also on occasion, the on ramp part wasn't covered by staff so newly arriving folks had zero direction/help and had to figure it out. Other than that, nice job!
This was our first experience - my 2 oldest, my wife and I all went to the laser tubing event last night. It was an amazing and unique experience. Pros: 1. the tubes are designed for optimal speed 2. The trek to the top is automated - the ride lasted for just a couple minutes 3. Multiple lanes 4. Great music and lights 5. Staff knows what they are doing and help promote safety Cons: 1. 4 lanes were closed periodically throughout the night making the lines for the other lanes excessively long 2. Spent more time in lines (because of these closures) than we did going down. A lot of people left due to this - which made the lines more bearable. We were able to go down 8 times in the time we were there. We had an amazing time and plan on returning more often going forward!
Took our 4 year old to Great Bear for a ski lesson and Seth, the ski instructor, was great with him. Rental process was quick and easy.
Great Bear was our wedding venue and we absolutely loved the entire experience. Jill the event coordinator was very helpful the entire time. They are reasonably priced and are willing to work with almost anything you want. We had such a blast having our wedding at this location. It's so beautiful plus you have absolutely everything you need in one place. We had our whole day out there! The photos, rehearsal, ceremony and reception. They cater the food for you and have so many beautiful spots to take pictures. We can't say how much we appreciate everything they did for us. We know for a FACT that we wouldn't have gotten the same treatment elsewhere and we would have had to pay more elsewhere too. I HIGHLY recommend this location for any event that you are planning. We do love enjoying some time out here in the winter too.
