We were here for a scout activity. You can park on Spring road or the parking lot on the East side of the Mill across the street where some additional structures are. The mill was open, the other structures were not. The mill is three stories but not very spacious on each floor with each floor having exhibits. There is a basement but there was no access to the public. The scouts stayed for the demonstration and the guide did a great job of keeping their attention and getting them involved. The first floor is where they do the demonstration and has a gift shop with two stairways leading up to the second floor where there are exhibits, some with audio playback, and another set of stairs going up to the third floor and additional exhibits. It's not a huge place so it can be a bit tight if there are a lot of people or a group like ours visiting. No washroom but there is a port-a-potty outside and I believe one back at the parking lot.
This place is amazing. There is a lot of beautiful nature areas you can see and you can also learn a little history as well
We need more places like this! You can go on a walk, run, or even kayak the Salt Creek. I did a loop starting from the mill, crossing the Flat bridge and then taking a right to continue along the opposite side of the creek. It was absolutely beautiful especially with the late fall colors. The mill and the waterfalls are so pretty. If you’re interested, you can visit all four levels of the mill building and learn about a lot of things. There is plenty of parking all around this place.
Husband found this on internet. Wonderful place for walk, beauty in nature and historial significance. A 13,000 year old mammoth lives here that was discovered in local farm. Very much a lovely family/individual outing to help appreciate the beauty around! Thrilled to find!
Interesting historical place and a really nice area to walk near by
My husband and I love this walking trail with the river run-off "waterfall". It is so peaceful. So many places for you to sit, relax, recalibrate. We go here often to enjoy the scenery as it changes with the seasons. It most beautiful in the Fall. The walking path is nice, you can ride your bike, run or just take a nice stroll.
Historical working Mill from 1852, preserved mill with a complete educational tie in for everyone. Learn how to mill corn, wheat, flax and more as you watch the process to mill grains by hand, by hand crank, and a mill stone. Learn about the history behind the mill, the owner, the underground railroad road, President Lincoln visiting the mill, and more. View all 4 levels and the outside to this working Mill: the basement shows the underground railroad artifacts and time pieces from the 1850s, a giant millstone and more. The first floor shows how to mill grain and gift shop, 2nd floor you learn how to weave thread with a historical working weaving machine done by hand and foot plus other neat artifacts, and the 3rd floor you see what a general store would have looked like, a child's bedroom, the kitchen and a general room in a home in the 1850s. Also learn how to spin wool to turn it into thread. The outside of the mill you can walk around and view the garden that is planted with grains from that era to be milled, learn about the handmade bricks and the glass and the white oak timbers inside the mill as well as the giant water wheel that powered the mill. Such an excellent and awesome learning experience for my family! We loved it and hope to visit again!
Nice stop to learn the history of the area with a relaxing walking path around the reserve.
