GrandStay Hotel & Suites Ames - Featured Reviews (523)
First glance, it seemed like it would be an okay hotel experience. Reviews were mixed, but our family usually gives the benefit of the doubt to the good reviews. We were greeted by a happy hotel staff member at the front desk. However, he and his coworker expressed that they were stressed as the hotel had never been booked this full before. We get to the room. It's not clean. Mold growing in the tub. dirt on the floor. large pretzel debris in the pull out bed. The pull out "bed" is the main source of contention. There was no bedding provided anywhere in the room for the pull out (and yes, we reserved a two bed room). We knew they were busy at the front desk, so my husband went down to get bedding. They were able to provide sheets and a pillow, but no pillow sheets or blankets were available. The mattress in question was heavily stained and very thin. The mattress was lumpy and painful. we tried moving it to the floor to see if that would provide more support, but it didn't. My older son chose to curl up on the floor instead. The regular bed wasn't bad and the room was nice in the respect there was a full size fridge. location was Convenient. While we were there a pipe leaked and the stairs became unaccessible for a day. The pool is tiny. It's all concrete and the floor becomes very slippery. The hot tub was out of order and looked as though a large amount of mud had accumulated at the bottom of it. If you need one bed only and just need a place to stay overnight this wouldn't be the worst option, but if you have a family look elsewhere.
Friendliest front desk staff. Clean and spacious accommodations. Pet friendly. A very nice place. Would recommend for all pet loving travelers. 4 adults and one small Fido comfortably accommodated. Well worth the stop. Breakfast was a plus as well.
Three of us were on our way to Kansas City from Minneapolis and found Grandstay Hotel & Suites in Ames, Iowa to be the perfect midway location. This hotel was very clean and accommodating. We were able to reserve a two bedroom suite with a pull-out sofa which was great for us since we each had our own space and even separate televisions. A small kitchenette made heating up food easy and the hotel breakfast was complete with eggs, sausage, waffles and other items such as yogurt. The hotel staff was friendly and easy to work with, even though we arrived after midnight. We would definitely recommend this Grandstay Hotel & Suites. It was easy to find from Hwy 35 too.
The rooms are big and spacious but there is carpet, which I do not prefer. the style feels very old. however what plummeted the score for me was one of the worst breakfasts I have ever tried. for the price I was definitely expecting more. The swimming pool is ok but small, the training room is very small.
we had to visit Ames for a competition at Iowa state. Nice spacious rooms, good coffee and breakfast, nice pool and hot tub. quick access to Iowa state. great value. we had a few issues with the room keys not working, but the staff helped us resolve that.
Positive: The two bedroom suite is why we often choose this hotel. The location and breakfast are good Negative: One of the bedroom doors was a pocket door. It was not easy to open and you felt trapped inside. Took some maneuvering to open it.
We had to take four different trips to the front desk to get our key cards to work. There were ants and crumbs in our room. We had reserved the room for five, but they did not give us linens for five. I had to go back to the front desk (trip #5) to get linens to make up the bed myself. The pool is VERY small. The toilet paper holder was broken. There was no hair dryer. And breakfast was very minimal.
Hotel is due for a renovation, continental breakfast was awful even our teenage son who eats everything in sight couldn’t eat it. Restaurant is connected to hotel. We had the one bedroom and it was perfect for our family of 4. Kids slept on couch and we had the bedroom.
Was in town for a wedding and had a flawless stay at this hotel. Great breakfast bar: eggs, bacon, waffles, and fresh fruit! Add 2 hard-working Country Inn employees who kept the food coming and the tables fastidiously CLEAN! Did I say BACON? Lots of
Updating my old review: This will once again become my favorite hotel in the area. The newly updated rooms are a nice change of pace and I found all of the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. The gateway has done a good job bringing things up to

Innamoratissimo! The cityâs definitive hole in the wall cafe downtown, under what was the old Bike World / Two Wheel Travel on Kellogg and Main. Great aesthetic, not too big nor too small. NOT wheelchair accessible due to the almost microscopic sta
