Great spot to stretch and use the bathrooms. Playgrounds are nice for the kiddos.

A perfect place to stop along Saddle Road for a picnic, bathroom break or just to take in the view. When I was here it was 73° but it is often chilly and windy so be prepared for that. *I found out if you need cell phone reception just pulling in here gives you a signal. There are toys for the kids, adult excercise equipment, picnic tables, Pokemon Go gyms 😉, and bathrooms. There are even cabins to rent.

Great stop on saddleback road especially if it's raining and there is thick fog. Bathrooms are available. Great play equipment for the kids.

There is a sweeping view of the mountain (Mauna Kea) as the backdrop for this park. Our family finished a nice picnic lunch, it doesn't get much better. There is a great playground near the picnic tables where parents can watch their kids play. The restroom is not far away, it is a well thought out facility.

We rented the cabins and had an excellent experience although the actual process of renting the cabins is laborious. If you are trying to rent a number of them for a group of your friends you will not be able to do it without involving those friends. If you're going to get four cabins you will have to have four different license numbers and for different people willing to Fork out the $250 deposit plus the one night stay. If one person is trying to put together a get-together with friends and family and is willing to Pony up the deposit for all four cabins then it doesn't seem like you should need to involve everybody else. That really makes the process difficult. The cabins were surprisingly clean and as long as the windows were kept shot we didn't get too cold but you will have to dress warmly especially if you're going in the winter time there is no heater no fireplace. make sure that you have socks on your feet because the floor is cold. There's a great playground close by and lots of outdoors to enjoy Mitch was the person who checked us in up at the cabins and he was fantastic. Very friendly very helpful. he showed us around and gave us the lay of the land and we really appreciated him. Our suggestions to the county (or whomever...) that rents those facilities out would be to change your check in time and your check out times! 3 p.m. check in and 9 a.m. check out is very difficult especially when you're trying to enjoy the vacation flow with kids. You have to be out by 9 which means you have to start cleaning well before that which means you've got to get up quite a bit earlier than you might want to! All of that said, we would definitely go back again we had a great time together

Really nice little recreation area in the middle of no where. The views are nice. Great playground area for the kids to play in and the restroom facilities are clean and well maintained. We had a picnic lunch here which was very nice even though it was rather windy when we were here.

I generally use it for a rest area but it has a nice playground and a big parking lot and two clean bathroom facilities and a hiking trail a bunch of cabins and exercise trail. It's nice and cool. It can be downright cold. You never know when it's going to be 40°F. During the day it's usually in the '60s. Has great views of both maunaloa and Mauna Kea.

The most strategically placed playground on the Island ;) You’re in the car driving up the Saddle Road for an extended period of time admiring gorgeous views, but the kids impatiently ask, “Are we there yet?” You finally take a break and see the playground. It us super fun, challenging and well put together. There are clean restrooms. Most importantly you are surrounded by beautiful mountains. Great place for a rest stop.

Excellent park with picnic tables and a stream! Kiddo loves chasing the chickens and there is a short trail (about 1 mile long) to walk. Trail pretty well maintained and no big hills.

This isn't really a destination. It's just a place you drive through on your way to somewhere else. It is a beautiful place to look at until you get used to it. Then it just becomes miles of lava field. For fun, look for sheep and goats as you drive

Beautiful canyon. We could not view certain parts due to fog. The waimea lookout was completely not visible the day we were out there but I hear it’s beautiful on a clear day. We were still happy with the parts we saw. A beautiful scenery and drive
