This place is amazing, for adults and children. Lots to do and VERY handicapped accessible!! They offer a track chair for trails if you call ahead. For free! Beautiful area. Lots of diverse plant and wildlife.
Had a wonderful day walking some of the trails here. Even had time to check out the discovery center. What an amazing place for hiking, learning, and enjoying Michigan's natural beauty!
Lots of different pathways with a recent controlled burn (probably last fall) on the one side of the entrance road! Side opposite burn has heavy leaf cover to make for a comfy trail. Also has paved trails to aid accessibility and kid-friendly areas. Felt safe walking by myself around sundown.
This was a neat place! We took my niece here. She loved learning about the animals and getting to hear the sounds they make and seeing the bee hive. She enjoyed the rock exhibit too. Its was a nice stop, especially on a rainy day. There were so many trails to walk one nicer day.
We took our grand children to the Discovery Center and they loved it! So many hands on learning activities! There is a bee hive in a clear glass case which was really fun to watch the bees go in and out of. Lots of exhibits of animals/birds/fish with push buttons to hear the sounds they they make. We had a great time!
The Discovery Center had lots of exhibits to explore. The geology zone was fun and interactive. There was also live frogs, turtles, salamanders, a bird garden and live/active beehive. The kids really enjoyed their time.
Great place to hike and explore! They have 5 or 6 day hike trails ranging from a mile to 5 or 6 miles. There are a few lakes around the center with nice viewing platforms. The highlight is likely the 10,000 year old bog. It's about a mile from the Discovery Center. They also have an awesome loop for 2-8 year olds (my guess as the group that'd love it the most... but works for all kids). It's filled with hands on outdoor related contraptions. Like digging tools and shelter building areas. It's less than .25 mile from the center. The center itself has some cool displays and extremely helpful DNR staff. The Waterloo-pinckney trail goes right through the center. It's about 5-6 miles from both the Green Lake Campground and The Pines Campground. I've seen hikers park here and hike to The Pines for an overnighter. Not sure if that's an official starting point or not though.
Great discovery center. Very cool honey bee hive, great interactive displays for kids and nice views outdoors.
