Gay Street Bridge - Featured Reviews (114)
There are four vehicle bridges connecting downtown Knoxville with South Knoxville. It is a steel cantilever arched design with a concrete deck. Five arched trusses all supported on stone piers. The bridge was completed in 1898 and is the oldest of the crossings in the city. It originally included trolley tracks but those have since been removed. The Gay Street Bridge was designed by Charles E. Fowler, chief engineer of the Youngstown Bridge Company of Ohio. When it opened, the county said it was "for the use of all the world except Spain" which was a reference to the Spanish-American war that was ongoing at the time. It underwent a major restoration in 2001-2004 and looks great for being over 120 years old. Well done! There is no toll to cross the bridge.
Awesome views of the riverfront downtown Knoxville. One of the main arteries to South Knoxville. Definitely worth a walk when touring downtown.
Saw this historical bridge from the water as we passed under it while cruising on The Star of Knoxville paddleboat. Century-old bridge. Interesting to view how it was constructed. 1898 construction from steel with five arches. When it was opened “For the use of all the world except Spain”, reflecting the thinking of the time during Spanish-American War. $16 million dollar reconstruction cost in 2003.
Don't know how it got its name, not relevant, seems to be iconic so I would recommend anyone to see it.
Beautiful place the Alleys are nasty where the artwork is but other than that pretty nice place
Beautiful and great for photography
Beautiful scenery perfect for photographers and a pleasant sight parallel of the Henley street bridge. Preferably a night time view with the tempting smells of Ruth's Chris and Calhoun's directly below and plenty to do near market square. Also a historical blount mansion and informational building at the very end so if you want a pleasant river view I suggest taking the walk. Biker friendly as well as jogger friendly.
I've never been asked to review a bridge. How does one review a bridge? It is old. It is sort of cool looking. It holds up the vehicles that cross it. It skillfully goes from one side of the river to the other.
Wow, who knew you could leave a review for a bridge? Well, as far as bridges go, it's fairly nice, especially since the refit at the beginning of the century. The sidewalks are nice and high to protect pedestrians and the road surface is very smooth.
My daughter and I absolutely LOVE Everbowl! I could eat one of their build your bowls everyday! Today, I came in to get 2 bowls to go, for my daughter and me ! I also decided to try one of the new oatmeal cakes - so yummy! My service was impeccable-
Anne was a very kind, informative instructor who took time with each of us personally in class. She was very thorough in the instruction and exercises, and she was so encouraging throughout the whole 6-week course!! Highly recommended and am thankful

My cortado was served properly with a glass of sparkling water. Many cafes omit this. I prefer it and will return for that fact alone. I like the interior with functional study/computer space. Itâs intimate and was mostly full, yet appropriately qu
