Garden Motel - Motel in Redwood City - 1690 Broadway, USA

I got here late, and my reservation was not on file, even though I had paid ahead of time. After much hemming and hawing the gal who answered the office door sent me to another hotel for the 1st night, promising to save a room for the rest of the nights I had paid for. The room has seen hard use, the maintenance seemed haphazard and unskilled, and the wiring looks to be genuinely 50+ years old. The walls are thin and someone seemed to be building something in the room next to mine. Definitely going to have to find a better place to stay while in town.

I booked a night in this place through Expedia. I wasn't expecting much obviously because of the price. When I got there there was a huge pile of garbage on the side and a half- naked man waving a stick around. The dilapidated shack had cracks on the walls, dirty curtains, weathered and missing roof shingles. I didn't even get out id my car and left. You'd better off sleeping in your car than staying in this disgusting place that needs to be bulldozed to the ground.

We stayed here for about a month and was very happy with our stay. Great price for a clean and place. The motel management were friendly and polite. Maid come every day and the room were cleaned very well with new towels everyday. Since I had a child, we were provided with amenities like mini-fridge and microwave, which was very nice. They have dish TV, wi-fi, heating, and desk fan. Our stay was comfortable and we will definitely recommend if someone wants to stay in heart of downtown Redwood city or traveling to SF but want to live in an affordable place.

I stayed here for about a month and was happy. It’s clearly not a four-star motel, but a great price for a clean place to sleep. ||||The small room (they have a few sizes) really is compact, with just enough space to get around. The place is well taken care of. The walls and general structure are old and give the room a somewhat run-down look, but most of the fixtures and appliances were new and shiny. The owners and maid were friendly, and the room was cleaned well. ||||Amenities were limited to a mini-fridge, microwave, dish TV, wi-fi, heater, and desk fan. My summer stay got a bit warm midday, but a fan and open window sufficed, though I could have wished for screens. The wi-fi was flaky and unreliable. The walls are thin, so about once a week I needed earplugs to tune out noisy neighbors. ||||The location is next to a hospital and a 7-11 and in a neighborhood where many signs are only in Spanish. Not much to look at but felt safe enough. Plenty of stores for everything you need within walking distance—a favorite was FoodsCo for groceries a block away. Coin laundry next to the 7-11. Public transit will require a ten minute walk to downtown, but from there Caltrain and buses go everywhere. ||||All told, my stay was comfortable and adequate for my simple needs, and my complaints were few and minor.

The Garden Motel has been owned by the same family for years, and they really care about their motel and their customers.||||In addition to being a great value, The Garden Motel also has a great location. It's located about six blocks from the Redwood City Caltrain station, providing fast and easy access to downtown San Francisco and SanJose. The Caltrain system also connects with Bart at Milbrae for access to much of the Bay Area.||||The room had the best cable service I ever had at a motel, with hundreds of channels available, including many premium channels. Their free Internet service is good enough to watch to watch streaming high def video.||||The motel is within walking distance of over a dozen restaurants, along with a Costco, KMart, Kohl's, and Barnes and Noble.||||P.S. One negative review mentioned problems with a room on the third floor. The Garden Motel doesn't have a second floor, or a third floor.

They have roaches in the rooms not very clean and service is bad do not recommend it to anyone not a place you would want to spend your money on that's for sure would suggest you go to another motel and get your money worth..

I have stayed at the Garden for about 3 years, and it's a quiet 16 room motel a stones throw from downtown , the court house and other municipal buildings. It's rooms are clean quiet and comfortable. If your in town for business or just in for a weekend, you can not go wrong at the Garden Motel.

I agree with the other reviewer - there are clearly reasons why the mid size room weekly rate is 360 - it is not a 4 star hotel, nor is it the HI express. However, if you want to save a couple of hundred a week, at least, and can put up with things just being a little old and not in the best nick, then this may suit you. Eg a shower head that sprays wildly to the sides etc. There was cable TV and the free wifi worked nicely for me with maybe a couple of drop outs occasionally. I staid there for 2 weeks and would stay there again. The location is about 10 minutes walk from down town, close to a supermarket and right across from 7-11. Management seems genuinely friendly and I had no issues but also did not need to contact them a lot.
