A hidden gem of Outer Banks, NC (OBX). My family has had a good experience here. A nice museum with many native Indian relics. The largest and greatest Native American museum collection ever seen by me in the United States.
Exceptional collection of pan-indigenous objects from across this continent. I especially was interested in more local Native history and current affairs. Superb service, gift shop/bookstore, and ethnobotanical nature trail!
Visited this museum last summer. It has a very nice collection of Native American artifacts, very informative and interesting galleries and displays. Friendly and Knowledgeable staff, very reasonable rates, plenty of souvenir items for sale. A must see museum when visiting Hatteras island.
Very educational place to take your family. It's not too big to where young children would get bored and you can keep there attention quite well. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The weather was nice so we enjoyed the trail as well.
This a really cool little museum, native American history from all over, friendly staff. Worth checking out one afternoon if you're in the area.
My husband and I visited this museum on our vacation to the Outer Banks. I found the museum well worth it. It was small but packed full with artifacts and written interpretation. The woman staffing the front desk was very knowledgeable about the artifacts -- I asked her about the largest and smallest artifacts in the museum. I got some booklets as souvenirs.
They have an impressive amount of Native history. It's very obviously been a labor of love. The museum looks very small from the outside but is really large inside. There's so much information and so much to look at. If you screen shot the QR codes at various displays, it'll give you more information about them. The staff is very friendly and enthusiastic about sharing information about the culture. They also have trails and things to see outside. Your ticket allows you to visit all week. Outside is always free. There's also a gift shop, a book shop and a thrift style shop to raise money. I highly recommend visiting. They've done a fabulous job! Be sure to check their website for different events they have. Also remember Mondays are by appointment only.
I knew this was a small museum from the reviews that I read but it is full of information. The exhibits have a good mixture of artifacts and written interpretation. I was really hoping to find more in the gift shop as far as handmade items but it was still nice.
