This was one of my favorite museums during my visit. I learned so much. Didn't know about the free People of Color in Louisiana. Imagine if they had been allowed to thrive... how different America would be today.

I don't know whether I've been to any other museum with such a knowledgeable, dedicated and deeply invested staff as this one. It was a moving and genuinely impressive presentation, and not one that I'll ever forget.

Outstanding. I advise first-time tourists to come here after visiting the WWII Museum. The space is very pretty, and the tour guides are absolutely spectacular: they manage to convey a whole lot of history that ranges from the absolutely abysmal, the dregs of the realities of what people have done to each other, to the marvelous and extraordinary, stories of triumph and genius. The women who spoke to us were talented raconteurs, keeping the attention of a room full of old people and younger people and even kids, engaging us with questions and making sure to direct our attention to key artifacts which tell the history of the free people of color. I went during their moonlight tour, it lasted about 45 minutes, and I plan to go for another tour in the day. I bought my ticket in advance.

I attended a gala here, and the ambience was impeccable. What a great place to hold an event such as this. The exhibits were awesome! Such great history that I knew very little about. I was quite intrigued, and l definitely look forward to going back again to experience the exhibit and it’s totality, with oral historians narrating.

This was by far the best tour I have ever taken at any museum or facility. Jyna gives tour and plays the part brilliantly. It was filled with information and she kept my interest. All I can say is BRAVO and give a standing ovation!!! She also tries to engage tourist which makes you feel a part of it all. I left wanting to learn more! The history of the beginning of blacks and creoles is so unique and beautiful!!! It shows how people of African descent are intelligent, industrious and even when held back will find ways to excel. Even in 18th century there was an 80% literacy rate among these people. The young lady who checked us in was also very nice and inviting! She also shared information regarding the NOAAM which is in walking distance (.7 miles). If you arrive early you are allowed to walk around museum and take photos with no flash. I highly recommended visiting this museum if in New Orleans. The tours are only on Friday and Saturday and only once each day so please check schedule. You must also book tour online and an email will be sent pay for in advance. It’s worth every penny and I highly recommend allowing yourself to have this wonderful experience!!

This is a beautiful museum where you can learn about New Orleans history and the contributions of African Americans. The owners are also warm and friendly.

This tour was freaking amazing. Seriously. I am so very glad that I came. I had initially needed to reschedule the first tour, the second they had to reschedule. I am so glad that they are here. This is the only museum dedicated to the free people of color in the state and even in the US, quite possibly the world. This is a small place and from what I understand each tour has its own flavor. I look forward to coming back and bringing others with me. This is on the list of the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail, and I can see why. I walked out with a new perspective.

This was a very informative tour and the ladies working there were lovely. Andrea was so nice to hang out with our kid while we enjoyed the tour. I definitely got to learn important aspects of the history I would not have through other sources. Andrea even let the kids touch and explore the various exhibits including musical instruments while she talked to them about the exhibits in a kid friendly way. I highly recommend this tour to everyone!
