My family has rented all three of the Fredericksburg Bakery suites during the first weekend in December for the past several years. ||||Overall, the property has deteriorated in cleanliness and is in general disrepair. For example, several bedroom doorknobs do not work, the back door does not close/lock properly, sinks and bathtubs do not drain well, the furniture is worn and dirty, odd noises from the downstairs bakery are painfully loud at night, etc.||||We were willing to accept the lack of maintenance by the owners for the one redeeming quality of the property - the balcony overlooks Main Street and is an excellent location to watch the annual Christmas parade. The annual parade is a magical and endearing event that everyone should experience! ||||Last year, the owner of the property (Patsy Penick) showed up shortly before the start of the parade and announced that her family would join us on the balcony. She declared that, regardless of my family renting the entire property, the owners have the right to do so. It was an awkward situation since we had planned to use the balcony to entertain our family and guests. She also recently stated that her family and friends may use the balcony this December for the parade. The people at Gastehaus Schmidt were kind enough to talk with the owners on our behalf, but to no avail.||||So, if you are ok with a run-down property with an excellent (shared) balcony, this place may be for you. My family has found a new place to rent, with respectful owners, to enjoy the storybook holiday atmosphere of Fredericksburg.

My wife and I spent three days in March. They have really kept up the interior. Really nice quilts and art. Spacious interior. The bed was good. We were able to use the kitchen area to bring our snacks and ice cream etc. great access to main street since you are on main street! We were in room number two out of the three rooms (between the other two). You could hear everything between apartments so don't plan on loud partying! There is only a single wooden door between the apartments. Don't miss the national Museum of the Pacific war! It is unbelievable! Plan on at least four or five hours going through that museum – every minute is extremely well spent in there.

Checked in with the management company and received keys and vouchers to about 6 restaurants in the area to be used during our stay. Each voucher is worth $7.00 in food. Parked in the parking spaces behind the building of the south side of Main. Downstairs is an Amish furniture shop. Upstairs is the residence. Very surprised at how nice. Full kitchen, 2 dining areas and a nice living room. Very nice back porch for coffee and front porch overlooking the Main Street with in the middle of the action. There is actually 4 bedrooms at the home but two share a bathroom with no shower, only a bathtub. Recommended for a family for sure. We walked everywhere. There is also a but of history of the building built in the 1800s. The owners lived the and the wife was actually and her life was written about in the Redbook magazine, which is there on display. We will stay again.

The location is wonderful and the pastries from the bakery are amazing, but the property does need attention from the owner. The carpets could be cleaner and as another review stated the sinks and showers/baths drain slowly. Also, there were a couple nails coming out of a metal strip between the carpet and flooring going into the bathroom. The nails are up far enough and sharp enough to puncture skin. We placed a folded towel over it to make sure we were injured if barefooted. We reported both of these items to Gastehaus Schmidt upon checkout. We are contemplating staying here again, but the unjustifiable price increase for the quality might lead us to another location.

This was the first time we stayed in Fredericksburg. Other trips have been to shop and enjoy hill country scenery but this was our first stay. This choice was made just because it was on Main Street and mistakenly thought there was a bakery downstairs. ☹️ It's very off season but I don't think the rates reflected that. We stayed in suite #1, the largest and situated in the front on Main Street. So much I could say - the best part of this property is the common area. It runs the entire length of the building from back porch to front with a kitchen and several seating/dining areas. All cozy and tastefully decorated. There were no other guests so we enjoyed the whole place to ourselves. I wouldn't stay in suite 1 again. It's noisy all night - should've known it would be right on Main Street. Also the king sized bed is so tall my husband had to use a foot rest from the chair to get in it. (Bad knees). I would love to come stay here for a girls weekend and book all 3 rooms. It would be perfect for a slumber party (in the spring). The freezing weather precluded spending much time outside. The HVAC is whole house so not sure how comfortable each room will be but the ceiling fans will help in warm weather. I stayed cold on this stay.

3 separate bedrooms off of a long common area, 2 seating areas, kitchen, dining. We used 2 of the bedrooms. The third was occupied by 2 others. It was fun visiting with them. We shared places to go and things to do. I really liked the arrangement. Everything was really good about it, especially the location, overlooking Main Street. Clean and great linens. |Beware of stairs since its on the second floor. Also, we thought it was above the bakery but it is no longer there. Kinda hard to spot the address and entrance. But no big deal. There was no breakfast but they gave us vouchers with several choices. We actually liked that better. ||We will return.

The location was great, right on Main Street in Fredericksburg. We did have some trouble finding the place since it was dark when we got into town, but we were happy with our stay at this quaint B&B. We were in the front room with a balcony that overlooked Main Street, so it was a little noisy, but it really didn't bother us much at all. Would be a great rental for a large family if you rent all 3 rooms. It came with a $5/person voucher to a few local restaurants. I would prefer if there was breakfast on site, but the voucher was a good option.
