Actually stopped here to get an empanada rather than ice cream. At the suggestion of the woman behind the counter went with the spinach and spicy chimichurri. Both were excellent, and it was a decent amount of food for $4 in downtown Charleston. Also kind of cool that they stamp letters into the empanadas to show what's inside them.
Makes me feel like home every time. The true Argentinean helado! A must try in Charleston. Any dulce de leche option and dark chocolate are my favorite. Empanadas are good too.
The lemon sorbet was silky, smooth—delicious! The balance of sweet and sour was perfect, and each spoonful was refreshingly delectable.
So I’m a local. I ran in for a quick coffee and decided to get an empanada. The chorizo empanada didn’t taste like chorizo. Actually there was nothing in it except a little bit of cheese. I thought it was going to be just meat. The coffee was delicious. The couple who ordered after me was asked if they wanted a sauce with their empanadas. I didn’t get asked that. I didn’t even know they had sauce. Not sure if I’ll make it back there again.
[Empanada review] Overall: Airport-quality empanadas for a premium price. The good: The empanadas were flaky and buttery, and the gentleman behind the counter was friendly and quick. The not-so-good: The empanadas were almost completely empty instead of packed with filling. The flavors were dull and uninspiring, and they certainly weren't warm. I've never been more disappointed eating an emapanada than I did with Freddo. Their milkshakes and gelato look good, but I doubt we'll be back.
I got the beef and the spinach empanadas. The beef was absolutely delicious! The spinach one was good but the beef was better! Also tried the caramel macchiato and it was delicious! Friendly staff and clean establishment! Definitely recommend!
Make sure you are checking the prices! They tried to jip us! The rude girl tried to charge us $8.50 for one scoop when the board clearly says $8.50 for two scoops. When we questioned it, she gave us major attitude and said only a baby scoop is less when that’s not what the listed prices say. Nowhere on the board mentions anything about a baby scoop. She was very argumentative and unpleasant. I wouldn’t mind paying $8.50 for good gelato but not when I didn’t get two scoops and that’s not what was ordered. Didn’t make any sense and very bizarre situation. She did end up adjusting the price to the one scoop price we ordered but she rolled her eyes and had a major attitude. She may be trying to take advantage of tourists but we’re locals. I wonder how many people she is overcharging and they just don’t notice. Bad business practices overall. Too many other good options in charleston that care for their customers. We won’t be back!
Excellent service! Ice cream is great. The best ice cream I have tried in the US. If you are in Charleston you need to put this place in your bucket list.
