Spent the weekend with 4 Pines Hostel. Clean, safe & comfortable environment. Donna is very welcoming. They provide all the amenities needed for a backpacker. We had 4 hammockers that stayed in the hammockers coup, they loved being out of the elements. Would def recommend staying with them.
A cozy and friendly hostel for hikers in Virginia I stayed at Four Pines Hostel when I was hiking the Triple Crown trail, which includes McAfee Knob, Tinker Cliffs, and Dragon's Tooth. I chose the hostel over a hotel because I wanted to meet other hikers and enjoy a more authentic experience. I was not disappointed by my decision. The hostel was clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The landlady, Dona was very kind and helpful, and she brought fresh eggs from her farm every day. The hostel is run by donations, so there is no fixed price, but you can pay what you think is fair and leave some food or groceries for other hikers if you want. The hostel has bunk beds, bathrooms, a kitchen, and a dining area. You need to bring your own bedding, though. The hostel has one bathroom inside and two outside, which are like pits where you can do your business. They are similar to what you find in camping grounds. They are clean and well maintained, though. There is also an outdoor shower that you can use in case the bathroom is occupied. The hostel is located in a beautiful setting, surrounded by mountains and nature. There is a big barn where you can camp if you prefer. There is also a fire pit where you can gather with other hikers at night and share stories. I met some amazing people at the hostel, who shared their hiking tips and experiences with me. I learned a lot from them and made some new friends. The hostel also has a friendly dog, Elie that you will definitely love. She is very playful and affectionate, and she will keep you company during your stay. She is one of the reasons why I felt at home at the hostel. The hostel is not perfect, though. It is not a luxury place, so you should not expect the same amenities as a hotel. There are some animals around, such as dogs and cats, and their food is stored in the hostel, so you may smell some odors. There are also some smokers who smoke outside, but the smoke may drift into the hostel. If you are sensitive to these things, you may not like the hostel. But overall, I had a wonderful time at Four Pines Hostel. It was a cozy and friendly place that made me feel at home. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves hiking and wants to meet other hikers. I hope to come back someday and enjoy another hike in Virginia.
These guys saved me by shuttling me from Andy Lane parking back to dragon tooth. They were available and prompt when I needed them after bonking 2/3 into my triple crown attempt. Next time, I'll stay at their place as a base camp and just do day hikes. Thanks so much!!!
I’ve stayed at Four Pines for 3 days and I want to live here. The property and views are spectacular. The homemade dinners remind me of my grandmother’s delicious meals. The homemade chicken dumplings Twisted made was ridiculously scrumptious . The homemade peach cobbler was so delectable. The crust on the cobbler Donna made was impeccable! In the morning, they bring in fresh eggs from the chicken coop for breakfast. There was also bacon, sausage, wraps, cheese, bread, etc that you can either cook on your own that they offer. Shuttles, slack packs, have been very helpful and efficient from Nature Boy and Twisted. The Vibe is so chill and relaxing here. They have such a beautiful and spacious property overlooking the mountains around you with plenty of chairs and even a huge fire pit with plentiful amount of fire wood. Four Pines hostel has a picnic table over looking a serene pond too. Dog, Ellie, does a perfect job patrolling the property. Jack, the white cat with beautiful blue eyes, was such a sweet welcoming hostess. The guineas they have roaming the property help with eating ticks and snakes. I’d say they are doing a great job because I don’t have ticks. I would like to thank everyone at Four Pines Hostel for providing such a phenomenal experience I will never forgot. You should all be very proud of the magic you create here. - Lucky Girl
Very fun and laid back vibe at this hostel. Hung out with some cool people. Hot coffee and a hot shower. Thanks for beating me in chess Repairman. The hostel us about a 1/4 mile off trail. They offer a shuttle to Catawba Grocery. The have great hamburgers at this convenience store.
This is a wonderful and welcoming place with plenty of bunks and extra tent/hammock overflow space. There's also a barn set up to hold additional guests and lots of lawn space to enjoy. There's a firepit, communal kitchen area, shower and shuttles. An important commodity to note is the washer! No dryer but there is a clothes line. Power strips as far as the eye can see and there's always some kind of group activity to enjoy. IE: water balloon fights and cooking adventures Shuttles are very well priced and go by the carload NOT by the head so grab some people and go explore! Downside is there's literally just one bathroom inside and that's also the shower/sink area. Hot water gets HOT though so that's a plus! Lots of cute chickens and a couple of dogs roam the property but it's really a great place and can't recommend how wonderful everyone was enough!
It is far from being likely to win any awards at all for cleanliness orderliness or service but I had an utterly fantastic time there because the people there are amazing. If you go you got a meet Srocket who's one scary-looking dude but has the most amazing stories of any hiker I've ever met. This is still a step up for those of us Appalachian Trail hikers who typically sleep on the ground in a tent
A laid back hostel run by good people. Nothing fancy but it's got everything a hiker needs. Close to the trail and also the Catawba grocery for resupply.
