I have known these good people and this establishment for more than half my life. Su is like a second mom to me. I have stayed here more times than I can count. It’s my home in between homes . In fact I’m at The Fountain right now! Every time I walk into any room it’s always so clean and smells so good! It’s quaint cozy and quiet here. Yeah I know it kinda sucks not having a mini fridge and a microwave but I have been told that will soon to be added to the cozy nice sized rooms! This little couple that owns the place are like family to me! They’re good noble kind and considerate people that I have a great deal of respect for! And if Miss Su ever reads this review herself I just want to say I love you mom! ❤️🪷
This motel sits off of 29 in Rustburg. It does have a vintage style and the beds are comfortable. The room that I stayed in was very clean. I have stayed here several times and will continue to do so. I have spoke with her several times yesterday and she is the sweetest person that I have ever met. Hope to see you guys again soon! I WISH that you guys allowed pets, I have a 4lb dog that I would love to bring with me.
I've been curious about this place for years, and had a chance to try it out on my way south for a road trip. It's a fairly large one story building from the early '60s, in the classic roadside motel style. The outside is presentable (although the neon sign badly needs work), and the lady in the office was friendly. The rate was about $50.|| The rooms were a bit of a letdown. The entire interior looks original, and while the retro dresser and hanging lamp were a neat throwback, the red shag rug was very dirty and worn. The bed was clean, but the sheets were pretty old. The pillows looked new-ish, and had plenty of 'fluff' left in them. The rooms also need to be repainted, or at least have the grungy spots scrubbed off the walls. On a chilly night, the baseboard heaters kept the room nice and warm. There was no cable, but the TV did get digital channels. The room had a fridge as well. The night was fairly quiet, although US 29 has a fair amount of truck traffic until quite late.|| The bathroom is white tile with black trim, and has a very odd mirror built into the wall. Cleanliness was only average, and the wallpaper is yellowed and worn. It did take the hot water quite a while to get hot, but it got really hot once it got going.|||| There is still a pool, but I would be shocked if it's ever in operation. You are well south of Lynchburg at this point, but there are a few restaurants within 5 miles. The truck stop nearby was mediocre, but cheap and friendly.
Despite this motel's David Lynch like movie set look and feel, The Fountain Hotel is really not all that bad. If you're in real need of a shower and a bed, and it's late, and all the other hotel's in the area have been booked (which is what I experienced because the university kids were back in town for the fall semester), it can be a lifesaver. I was traveling on business and had no choice. Sure, the rooms show some wear and tear and it ain't pretty for sure. But, I didn't get sick or catch any diseases during my stay, and I had no bug bites the next morning. The old couple that owns the joint were very accommodating and friendly. The water was hot, the air conditioning was cold, the bed was ok, and the TV had a few good cable channels. I wouldn't bring the kids here on vacation, but it works in a pinch. What more do you need for $49? Think of it as a trip back in time to 1965.
My daughter and I had to create an account to warn people about this motel. It is scary. This run down, filthy, smoke-stained, bug-infested nightmare is unacceptable! Unsanitary and disgusting with mold and stains on the bed and carpet. BEWARE. Who gave this place 5 stars? This place is uninhabitable. Do not stay here.
Truthfully... Extremely Out of date furniture & very limited toiletries but the room was very clean & turned out to b incredibly comfortable... Oh & the water was on point wit the hotness i loved it & the location was perfect for our lil getaway trip! Last but not least the lil korean couple wrkn there were so sweet n nice to let us get a room even tho they were closed & it was so cold for them to come out & be so nice to us! Gratitude is definitely felt!
The manager copies below that this is a “budget-friendly” motel and that “they strive to deliver the best service.” This is hardly the case. The rooms have mold, mildew & roaches. This is disgusting and we are never visiting again. I recommend trying the hotels nearby. This place is scary, unlivable, dirty & gross. Service is just as disgusting. Budget-friendly, more like bug-friendly.
Calling it a Vintage hotel to hide behind a worn out, run down, filthy, smoke stained, bug infested nightmare is unacceptable!! Years of cigarette smoke stains everything in the room. Bathroom sink wouldn't drain. Chased cockroach out of bathtub in the morning to take a shower. Mismatched furniture from the 60's and 70's, looked as though it was pulled from the dumpster. Health department should close the doors on this place.
