I was on the island for a week and trained here 3 times. I’m really glad I chose Foundation to train at for my stay. Horlando is very high level and was very welcoming. He is an enthusiastic instructor and great teacher, and has some good guys to train with. If I’m ever in Hawaii again I will definitely be back!

My family and I live in AZ. We have gone to seminars and watched Horlando compete and live his Jiu Jitsu lifestyle for many years. While recently visiting Kona, Hawaii we scheduled some time to visit and train at Foundation BJJ with Horlando, his beautiful wife and team. The gym is great and has recently been beautifully remodeled. The experience was just as we expected; High-level Jiu Jitsu from one of the best competitors and instructors in the sport. Walk out satisfied with a great training and take in the tropical air as you look out over the Pacific Ocean. What an experience! We would do it again in a heartbeat and can't wait to visit again. Thanks guys! Oss!

I really enjoyed my visits to Foundation BJJ. Prof. Horlando and his entire gym were welcoming and friendly. I received some great instruction with lots of details, and enjoyed the rolls with new training partners. This is a high-level gym and if you find yourself visiting, you'd be mistaken not to stop in for a class! I chose to train in the morning at 6am and then would still have the whole day to enjoy the island.

Great place to visit! I got to go twice while in Hawai’i for a conference. True feeling of aloha and ohana. Horlando was very welcoming and helpful. Good instruction. Good students! Everyone was so nice! If I were living in Kona, I would be training at Foundation BJJ… may be one day I’ll get to move back. I would already have a home. Mahalo for the training! Recommend to everyone!!!!

Dropped in on vacation and was welcomed by a great group of people in a great place. Horlando was very kind and provided me with water, as I had not brought some, and boy did I need it! The All-Levels practice was a great mix of drilling, technique, and cardio with rolling at the end. I really enjoyed my time here and would recommend it to anyone visiting Kona looking for a place to drop in. Next time I visit I will for sure drop in again! Thank you for having me and treating me with such wonderful hospitality. The rolls were fantastic and put me through my paces! Many Thanks from an Iowan!

Foundation BJJ is a high-level welcoming place! I dropped by for a 6am mixed-levels class. Professor Horlando was very friendly and welcoming, as were his students. I am still fairly new to BJJ and gained a great perspective from my visit to Foundation. Thanks!

Great training here while in Kona. Highly recommend this gym. Very clean gym, great location and high level instruction. Professor Horlando is very welcoming to all students and takes the time to make sure all students understand the technique. If you are planning a trip to Kona this is a must if you’re looking to train.

Great experience! My daughter wanted to train while on vacation and she really enjoyed the class. Everyone was welcoming and encouraging. We would definitely come back. Professor Monteiro also gave us great recommendations of where to go while we waited for the rest of our family to finish their outing.
