Had a wonderful behind the scenes tour of the fortifications. Aside from the main interest in weaponry, the support needed to run the location was included in the guided tour lectures. Our tour guide Sean went above and beyond to answer any questions. He made the whole tour even more interesting by asking us questions. As I told him he probably has one of the coolest jobs among his peers.
Amazing place to visit fire a real look at history here back during WW2. They have a 16" gun from the Mighty Mo there. My grandpa served on that ship during the Japanese surrender. To think he once looked at the very same gun when he was a kid in the Navy is amazing, or maybe they replace those things every ten years or so and it's a totally different one. Regardless, it is a great place to visit and the guides are very knowledgeable.
This is a hidden gem. Heard about it from a neighbor while vacationing in Ocean City. When he heard we were going to Lewes next he said we had to visit Fort Miles. The tour was very informative and really made you understand how this place operated. We were there about 90 minutes but could have spent all day if we had bikes or wanted to do one of the walking trails.
It was a nice sunny January day. We took advantage and went to Cape Henlopen. I had never been to Fort Miles, so we cruised thru.
Ft Myers was created during WW II to prevent enemy ships from encroaching onto the US. A constructed shelter located 20 feet below ground level was constructed. Worth visiting their museum. Open on weekdays . Only minus , you will be only allowed to visit approximately 25 percent of the underground structure. And yes, there is free entry. During WWII, Fort Miles did encounter one incident with a German submarine which concluded to a surrender. Great appreciation for the US military for all the construction of a Great defensive system back then. God bless the US.
Loved the walks here. There are lots of things to see and study. Most walkways are paved and then there's the beautiful backdrop of the Delaware Bay. Unfortunately the Museum was closed when we visited.
We went last year but missed the tour. We made a trip down from PA specifically for this tour. Mike definitely did not disappoint. He was engaging and animated. Highly, HIGHLY, recommend this tour.
I lived in Delaware for 4 years and never knew this place existed. It has several remaining buildings, a lot of artillery and they turned the old bunker into a museum. There are even several watch towers near by the closest one to the fort can be climbed to the top.

The loveliest low key cafe with truly excellent food. Get the Mediterranean platter and soup of the day! Kids menu is perfection - grilled cheese melted and pressed to gooey goodness, thickly sliced bread with drippy jam PB&J. Compliments do the kitc
Wonderful rooms to choose from. We had a gas fireplace in the suite, which gave a very nice ambiance. It is a large suite with a sitting area, a dining table with chairs, and a separate room with the bed. The hotel is located right across the br
The station was recommended to us as a must visit while on a weekend away here in Delaware. So glad we stopped in. Iced coffee was amazing and the apple fritter was probably the best I've ever had.
