We stayed for a week. Yes the campground is near the highway but at night we didn't hear any noise at all. We did all 3 trails and enjoyed them. The one to the swim area is super steep, best bring poles if it is wet. The showers were the hottest we've had during 3 weeks of travel. The only weird bit were the "host volunteers" that were surprised when they had a bear eating from their hummingbird feeder and then had to drive to sites to warn all the campers. They also were a bit showy with their power privileges, you could see the wide screen TV on in their camper and they ran power to at least 3 different "guests" who camped nearby. We didn't go expecting power but we're a little surprised by this.
Fort Dummer State Park provided us with an enjoyable camping experience shared with friends. We particularly liked the Sunset Trail, which led us to the playground area. Although the playground lacked kids' swings and slides, we still had a great time playing games there. Cooking at the campground was a fun experience, and we later headed to the open ground to indulge in stargazing during the night.
However, we did encounter a slight issue with the volunteer staff. They seemed a bit unfriendly and frequently approached us to remind us about keeping the noise level down and maintaining campground rules. The restroom facilities were a bit far from our campground, which was a minor inconvenience. Additionally, the area had a high mosquito population, so it's crucial to remember to bring mosquito repellent spray.
Overall, despite these minor setbacks, we had a wonderful time camping at Fort Dummer State Park and created cherished memories with friends.
Nice enough park, but really only 2 small loop trails, sunset and sunrise. Each trail is about 1 mile and each has one Scenic view about half way in. The sunset trail starts at the end of the play field and there is no sign for it until you walk to the end of that field. Easy to miss. There is a third small trail that goes to a pond. I didn't take it, but it's supposed to have a bit of an incline on the way back. The park has camp sites. Day access is $4 per person.
Really enjoyed our time here. Park was clean in all aspects, staff was courteous and helpful. When you pull up to the entrance, there is parking to the right of the office/ranger station, and you must check-in first or make a day use/campsite reservation. They sell small stacks of local firewood. Each campsite has a fire ring with a small grill built-in for you to cook on. The ground was flat and even, mostly dirt. They offer both RV and/or tent spots. These vary in size but most are plenty spacious enough for a family, their vehicle, tent(s), and gear. You get a bit of traffic noise coming from downtown Brattleboro and the interstate nearby but overall it’s a pretty quiet state park. We didn’t end up hiking due to the weather and time constraints but there are a few easy trails within the park and are easily accessible to visitors of the park. Both the sunset and sunrise trails came recommended by the park guide. There are coin op showers, a picnic area, and more. We enjoyed our time here and I suggest looking into checking this park out for a nice ‘splore.
Great place to get away. Recommend any tent or lean to sight. Worth going out of your way
Visiting from out of state, beautiful park and wonderful cleared trail . Gorgeous scenery
Loved it! Super quiet, great walk/hike, dog friendly, kid friendly, went for a hike but also explored the camp ground and found a few great camp sites for this summer!
A lovely climb through sunrise trail, the summit is wonderful
