I got to check them out during an interactive history weekend where they had renectors. The site director was super awesome and was willing to talk to anybody and everybody who had questions. The reenactors were on point. If you're a history buff it is absolutely worth taking the trip to see it!
We spent the night here in the free campground. Had the place to ourselves and could appreciate the isolation those stationed here must of felt.
Of the Historic sites along the Missouri River I have visited over the last week Fort Buford was the least interesting. I could see where the information provided could be greatly expanded out. The plusses were the buildings you could visit were interesting. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledge about Fort Buford. If you are anywhere near the site I recommend taking the time to visit!
Interesting and well done historic site. Two guides there, one Native American, were enthusiastic and so knowledgeable. Unique facts about the site and its story. The cemetery gravestones most tell cause of death. Well worth a visit. Admission is free if u visit the confluence center nesrby. Lots of grasshoppers! We left there and headed to a car wash!
I love old military sites. Especially ones with nice walkways, and great plaques filled with bits of history. We didn't get there in time to do a tour, so that was a downside, but we still enjoyed it!
Two large buildings are rebuilt from the original large fort.
Great place to visit very well-maintained. While we were there this past week they were actually painting and doing more updates to make it even more pleasant to walk around.
This shows Ft Buford however it is definitely Ft Union. Only a couple miles from Ft Buford. You must see all 3. Interpretation center, Ft Buford then Ft Union.
