Absolutely amazing and the BEST FRIED ZUCCHINI EVER!! we ate them before we could post. Oscar was delightful. We came from horrible service at the cheecake factory in the city to amazing food and deserts at Fentons. The ice cream was fresh, and service came with a smile. Going back today to try the salads.
Fentons, the famous ice cream parlor and restaurant, is featured in the Pixar movie “Up”. It is a real place near Pixar Studios in the Piedmont area of Oakland that first opened in the 1880s! If you haven’t seen the movie “Up” I highly recommend it. It’s one of the few movies that makes you cry within the first 10 minutes - but also comical enough to entertain children and thought provoking enough for adults. Up is about releasing a dream and realizing the real dream is the one happening right in front of you. The little boy in the movie missed the “boring moments” with his absentee father. Eating ice cream on the curb from Fentons, counting passing cars with his dad inspired our visit. The real Fentons glorifies the past. They must have survived due to the huge portions. Their ice creams are honestly meals within themselves. Amazed to see Customers ordering full diner style meals and then the huge dessert…The place was full and the service was friendly. It felt like a serious celebration birthday meal place for comfort food. I think the petite size sundae is like a regular ice cream size. The Swiss chocolate was good but just a few teaspoons was enough for me. It is super creamy, very fresh and you can see people making tubs of ice cream in their “factory” through class windows. They smiled and waved hi to us. It’s hard to be unfriendly with tubs of fudge all around you. People were overall happy with their towers of ice cream…staff was a bit stressed but overall it was a good atmosphere…I got a Roobois tea and felt full just looking at the food. Seems like they also support and help the Oakland firefighters 👍👍 Awesome!
Fenton's never disappoints with their ice cream creations. The Banana Special was big enough to feed two people. We split a basket of very hot onion rings between four people.
Used to be the spot back in the day now. It's just really disorganized and super dirty and run down. The employees aren't super friendly and it's just not what it used to be. Ice cream is still good though . Also, it's 2024. Can y'all add additional non-dairy options?? (For my non dairy folks who don't just want sorbet)
Australian family in San Francisco visiting family and visited Fentons on our first night in San Francisco. Totally great place to eat. Oscar, our waiter, was very helpful and friendly. The ice cream is unbelievably beautiful, especially the caramel almond crunch. Serves are huge. I couldn't finish the ice cream.
Update: We loved Fentons so much we returned to Fentons on our last night in San Francisco on December 4th, and once again, they didn't disappoint. Great place, and the ice cream is totally awesome.
The last time I was here was in the 80’s when I was at Cal. The inside still looks like what I remember. The ice cream is also the same. Classic flavors. I still need to try a sundae as those have always looked so delicious. There is a small parking lot available.
The epitome of sweet gooey goodness in the ice cream arena, you can also begin with a rather delicious crab salad sandwich. I recommend visiting this Oakland staple... but than once.
Super busy creamery with lots of yummy ice cream! We got a banana split with vanilla ice cream and chocolate fudge all over, it was delicious. Wasn’t able to finish the whole thing, but it was still great.

Cozy, unpretentious yoga studio for people of all ages and abilities. I've only gone to this location one time so far but the instructor was great. Lots of natural light and a nice waiting area with clean restrooms and water available. Highly recomme
Love to support small business inspired by family and culture and led by strong women! Highly recommend the latiya latte and champorado mocha (as well as their chicken empanada) ð we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with co-owner Ari and l
