Great little hike! The old growth trees are spectacular. What a blessing that someone thought to save this area. Combined with a couple other short hikes to make a spectacular day.
This is a beautiful spot near Copper Harbor. It has about 2.5 miles of hiking trail. Some of that is groomed gravel suitable for most people but the rest of it is more technical hiking trail.
Well worth the drive and the 3-mile hike around the property. These giant white pines are 500 years old and it’s amazing they escaped the lumbermen of a hundred years ago who supplied the lumber to build Chicago and other places.
Visiting makes it easier to imagine what all of Michigan looked like BEFORE the lumber rush of the 1800s.
The right loop is easy. The left loop has slightly more challenging walking.
This was a lovely picturesque hike through a fairy forest of color and 300-500 year old trees. There is a main trail from the parking area and about .25 mile in there is a right and left loop, 1 mile and 1.2 mile respectfully. I fell in love with the mix of fall colors that were taking my breath away. A must see.
Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary is located in Keweenaw County, has 570 acres, and preserves one of the last old-growth white pine forests in Michigan. An easy to hike trail of two loops, 2.5 miles, passes under toweing 125 foot white pines that germinated in the year 1695. Excellent birdwatching with more than 85 bird species sighted. This boreal climate forest floor is blanketed with ferns, asters, violets, blue bead lilys and other wildflowers. Stunning forest!
A truly restful walk in the woods!
Estivant Pines is another MI UP hidden gem. This 500 acre old-growth forest lies within a wilderness that's thick and peaceful. This amazing growth is filled with Eastern White Pines of great age that have had very little disturbance. Well worth your time to experience a piece of unique nature that still exists.
Plan on 1.5 - 3 miles depending on what you want to take on and bring some bug spray.
* For the more adventurous... Explore/navigate to the Fallen Giant - you'll have to trek about another mile through swamp, river, and thick woods, so plan accordingly and be prepared!
I highly recommend venturing out to see these amazing white pines and old growth hardwoods. They're just beautiful!
The drive out itself is quite a blast.
We didn't have a chance to make the hike around both loops but we'll be back.

It's a small parking area. But you'll enjoy a lovely winding scenic walk through the woods hiking up and down the landscape to reach the shoreline. It feels a bit longer than what the sign says it is so be prepared. The beach is mostly red rocks with
Great spot to look for Yooper rocks. The trails are quite bumpy with tree roots and rocks so you really have to pay attention! Easy to walk around once you are at the waters edge. We went to the right off the stairs. Parking was available and free. N
We have a summer home in Marquette. Over the years we have expanded our trips to the UP to include camping and waterfall visits. This was one of our first camping trips. Such a beautiful area. A bit hard to find as our GPS took us down a dirt road a
Such a cool and trendy gift store. We loved it and discovered discounted items to take home to remind us of our wonderful stay in Copper Harbor. Really nice and helpful employees.
We all had a wonderful meal. It's a higher end restaurant. The presentation, food and prices reflect that. You will get what you pay for. Gourmet food!
This place is perfect. We loved the view out the back. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Beds were comfy. The owners are great. We talked to two families who have been staying there annually for decades. There is a great little ice c

We went up for fall colors and stayed in log cabins (heated but you can make your own fire). Breakfast is included and delicious! We purchased a picnic basket dinner and grilled our own burgers with some additional fixings! Staff and chef are super
