Essence Bar and Grill - Soul food restaurant in Brooklyn - 1662 Atlantic Ave, USA

I've been coming her for years , an old-school vibe with lots of space.I believe they have one of the longest bars in bklyn. Great place for large groups with outdoor space. They should be on the best chicken wing list .Reasonable prices for food and a great happy hour.

Food is excellent I've had the Essence wings, shrimp cocktail, and a few others...all very well prepared and presented. As far as drinks it's the small things like a lime in your corona or a cherry and orange slice with your whiskey sour that adds to the aesthetic..maybe even a welcoming "how are you, what can I get you". Not pet peeving, but let your top bartender who can make a drank, who is personable and charismatic be the one to teach these very unprofessional nasty attitude bartenders who were serving today(Dec 26):an I ain't talking bout Felicia,😑, in a uniformed way. I usually get down wit my grub drinks n fellow patrons, always a great vibe. One negative don't make me forget the other 5 positive. Visit...eat...enjoy...great place overall.

The day was rainy and I decided to stop here to have a convo with my friend and it was probably a hiccup in the services that day or it always like that . The fish was cooked perfectly and fresh the French fries was not good and the whiskey sour just tasted sour lacking the taste of alcohol. So I would encourage them to step up the buns . The store and them don’t have much competition if the services and food don’t get better.

Catfish under cooked, calamari horrible, grilled shrimp good, fried shrimp good, collard greens disgusting! Bartender Natasha was very professional and great hostess! Drinks were good prices for bottle of wine was GREAT!

On Saturday 12/2023 we held a family dinner for my aunt 80th birthday the food was amazing and the bartender did an awesome job on the drinks..the atmosphere was great. I would like to thank Marilyn and her staff for an outstanding job everything was wonderful!!!!..Hope to visit again on my next trip the NYC...

Came here for a drink and seafood, and they delivert!!! My waiter was a male, and he was super accommodating, especially for a busy Friday evening. My only gripe was that my food came out not so hot. It taste freshly made, I think it sat waiting too long, to be picked up. Meal: seafood combo. Includes Grilled and fried shrimp, calamari, and catfish strips. With a side of Pinot!!

Very Disappointed 🙁. I Tried to give them a shot. 16 bucks plus a tip. I ordered Whiting fish and two sides here are my results. One small piece and one half piece of fish with ok tasting sides. Very over priced for such a small portion. I live in the neighborhood and you usually get double for that price on a fish dinner order.

This bar is where you can relax and enjoy the vibe . It's small but you feel like you're at home chilling..
