El Portal Motel is good for what it is. The room was large with a good-sized bathroom and a small table and TV. The bed was fairly comfortable, but the pillows were fairly flat. When I woke up, I saw a few dead crickets on the floor. However, the negatives are mostly offset by the low price of the room.

The El Portal Motel in Beatty is a great place to stay when visiting nearby Death Valley National Park, the eastern entrance only being about 10 miles away. Quite a few travelers appear to make this their base either going to or coming from Death Valley. The El Portal is your old school mom and pop motel likely dating back to the 1960s or early 1970s. It's a relatively small establishment having maybe 20 - 25 rooms. My wife and I stayed here for one night in August 2023 while on vacation and on our way to visit Death Valley National Park the next day. It's a very well-kept motel. It has a swimming pool in the back and an awesome old-style motel sign out front that is lit up after dark. Great for some excellent photos. The experience here harkens back to the classic days of road travel across the desert back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The rooms are retro, but spacious and well kept. The facilities (shower, sink, toilet) were all in good shape and functioned well. The air conditioner kept the room nice and cool all night long. Check-in was easy and friendly. The price was also reasonable for this little town being the gateway to Death Valley. Oh, and there is a nice little motel kitty named Mittens you'll likely meet when either checking in at the front office or somewhere around the property during your stay. She is really sweet and enjoys being petted. Beatty also features a number of stray burros that roam the streets, some of which are friendly. For eats, Beatty has a Subway, Denny's and a couple of other local dining establishments. All in all, a good stopover through the barren desert of southeast Nevada. Nothing fancy - just good, simple and clean accommodations that won't break the bank. We would certainly stay here again should we find ourselves in this area in the future.

Pros: Staff was friendly and helpful. Cons: Room wasn't properly sealed. Cold air was coming through the windows due to bad seal. Bad seal around the door. You could hear everything being said outside in the parking lot due to the sealing issues. Room took a long time to get warm due to all the cold air blowing through. Walls were paper thin could hear everything in neighboring rooms. Carpet was very stained and looked filthy. Dirty walls, surfaces and floor around toilet. Wifi didn't work.

Careful with this business. They are very unethical and don't like to pay their bills. Daughter inherent the business and decided she doesn't like to pay services received. edit: @owner, that's where you are wrong. I have visited El Portal Motel back in like 2015. "fair and ethical" = not paying your website provider just because you inherent the hotel even when you have emails.

Une chambre qui sentait la cigarette, une propreté laissant à désirer.. On se fait réveiller la nuit car des ânes passent devant la chambre… Ça passe pour une nuit, pas plus. La réceptionniste est très gentille c’est pour ça que je mets 2.

We loved El Portal Motel! We stayed during our honeymoon road trip through Nevada and California. The rooms are basic but clean and well-equipped with a fridge and microwave, as well as tea and coffee facilities. The bed was so comfortable which we appreciated after a long drive. The owner is lovely and we felt so welcomed. Bonus points for the resident cat Mittens who is very friendly and gorgeous, and the owner's dog Max who is a complete sweetheart. I'd recommend this motel to anyone on a road trip!

We stayed here for a night on our cross country road trip. It's quite dated, but clean and comfortable. We were headed to Death Valley and it was close-by and convenient. No breakfast was offered, but there was a nice outdoor pool on the property.
