In town for just one day and looking for local places to go eat….and usually Mexican restaurants are almost always descent. This one didn’t let me down. Nice atmosphere, quick service, good food.
The food was good and prepared well. The restaurant was clean well decorated. Very nice, even on the outside. The service was not bad. Just not a lot of personality. They would smile and talk with themselves, but with customers it was short huffy answers. Deal breaker? Nope! We would go back again and I recommend it.
If you're in a rush for lunch but want to sit down to eat, El Maguey is the place. Great food, served fast! My wife had the El Gordo burrito (chicken and steak) and I had the El Navidad burrito (shrimp, steak, chicken). This is one of the few places with pretty decent table hot sauce. Our order came out within 7 minutes of placing it, we'll be back.
My husband & I were out for the day. We wanted to try a new food place. Saw El Maguey with alot of cars in front. The staff were quick, attentive and polite. The house chips and salsa were fresh. We ordered long islands and two separate burritos. The food arrived very fast! We were pleasantly surprised! Out of the two burritos (El Gordo, El Navidad) the El Navidad was our favorite! The only thing keeping this from being a perfect review was the wobbly table! It drove us crazy as we each were cutting and the table would wobble. We will be back with our daughters!
Service was fast and courteous, the food was well prepared and served hot, the restaurant was mostly at capacity so it was relatively loud and the beverage was not as expected.
Tacos are cheap taco bell style hard shells no flavor. I guess I was expecting a fried taco shell like every Mexican restaurant ive ever been to. Basically their red sauce is tomato sauce poured on your food. Waiter was very nice. Enchiladas are small Corn tortillas with meat on the inside and tomato sauce poured on it. Very bland. Expected much better quality food. Rice was ok but still bland. 60$ for me to take 2 bites and leave.

Always a good place to eat. I get the same thing every time and every time it's amazing. The chips and salsa get insanely addictive though.

So glad I found this place! Carne asada, chorizo, pastor tacos and a tamale, all delicious. I dressed them up with their open salsa bar. Great prices too. They have a buffet but I havenât tried it yet.
Sotelo is the most authentic Mexican diner in St. Joseph. My wife ordered street tacos which were delectable. The carne asada is the best. I ordered the lunch fajita trio and the portions were very generous. Washing it all down with a Mexican Coca Co
