So, this was the third place I went to after moving to Lynchburg from N.J. Let me say how I wished it was my First, from the atmosphere to the Food and not to mention the Fantastic Bartenders, that make you feel do welcome! If you come alone or with someone you will feel like a old friend. This is a Must go to! Check out their Awesome Happy Hour too.. Save yourself time and just walk in. You will be so happy you did....
This was a great experience. Food was great. Server was attentive and friendly. Love the setup. The cilantro lime shrimp tacos were perfect. Will be back soon.
Great place. I'd call it more Arizona Mex than Tex Mex or California Mexican, but it really is its own thing. The tacos were good but the highlight was actually the house-made chips and salsa. I would've preferred the 'top shelf' margarita less sweet, though.
Big fans! We stayed right next door. Stopped in for a quick drink and snack. Lovely conversation with our bar tender and manager, Maddie. Great guacamole and fresh baked corn chips due to a gluten allergy. Loved the creative tequila infusions and creative drink menu. It’s a fun environment and I can tell the employees enjoy the environment, too. Check it out, especially if you enjoy a great margarita!
Really cool looking little place but very limited menu and the enchiladas we got weren't good but the chips and queso were fantastic. We didn't get good waiter service which was annoying maybe they were short staffed. Definitely wasn't good enough for a repeat visit. Oh and I wasn't expecting plastic cutlery it was pretty impossible to cut my enchiladas with a plastic fork. Queso was served in a Styrofoam take out container? Idk it was an weird.
WOW, what a great taco stop in Lynchburg, VA!! I had just flown in from traveling all day and chose to visit El Jefe as my first stop in Lynchburg for dinner.
I decided to sample a multitude of tacos and thoroughly enjoyed a pork carnitas taco, picadillo beef taco, chipotle chicken taco, and the carne asada taco with a side of spanish rice. Each taco tasted great! While I would would recommend trying all of the tacos, the best 2 would have to be the carne asada taco and the pork carnitas taco! The avocado cream sauce on the carne asada was just amazing!
For dessert I got the churros. They were nice and as excepted as a classic dish. The deep fried bread topped with icing/ chocolate sauce and cream was fulfilling!
The wait staff were extremely nice. I was taken care of by Bella during my time at El Jefe. Bella was very warm and welcoming!!
Overall, I love El Jefe. Without a doubt I will visit again when back in Lynchburg!
Love this Lynchburg Taco restaurant. We travel from NC to VA a couple times per year and we were lucky enough to find this jewel about 5 minutes off the highway. The back deck is dog friendly. Tacos are eclectic and done very well. You like tequila? They've got you. El Jefe is a must when in Lynchburg or driving by. Cheers!
Understaffed. Long wait time for tacos. Tortilla chips CAKED in salt. Once food arrived, it wasn't good. Lacked flavor and seemed like it was just thrown together. Establishment has potential that isn't being tapped.

Awesome view! Tunnel can see through Mount Rushmore Monument. Car can stop on side to take a peak for a few minutes. Our Tour Bus went through this tunnel.
