El Dorado Motel - Motel in Salinas - 1351 N Main St, USA

I wanted to go biking in Monterey, so I wanted to stay in a budget motel. I couldn't find an affordable Super 8-like motel in the greater region and I ended up choosing the El Dorado Motel. I paid a reasonable rate ($75 for a Saturday night ) and did not come in with high expectations.||||Pluses:||||* The people whom I talked to on the phone and in person were courteous and kind. Good customer service is important to me, so this was a positive! Without any prompting, I was upgraded to a king sized bed at no cost. This was a nice gesture, given that I arrived after normal service hours after a long drive from Fullerton. From limited interaction, I perceive current management as being well-meaning and good-hearted.||||* Although the building and interior walls of the room were dated, ownership has upgraded at least some of the furniture. The wooden TV cabinet was actually quite nice.||||* The shower worked well (until the handle came off--minor quibble; easy to fix).||||* The room and towels were nicely scented (subjective of course).||||* The pillow was decent (for me).||||* There was wireless service, but it seemed spotty.||||Minuses:||||The aspect ratio of the TV was distorted.||||No hair dryer was placed in the room.||||The bathroom and shower was small (but it did not bother me).||||The shampoo, particularly the soap, were low-end, as to be expected.||||The blanket on the bed is thin.||||Despite the minor problems, I got what I needed out of this stay: an affordable, clean enough room, close to necessities and food within a reasonable driving distance to Monterey. Given the overall experience and cost (value always factors into my rating), I rate this a 3.5 out of 5. I assume that the owner and manager will consider feedback and continue to improve this motel.||||I am submitting this review on Trip Advisor because there are few reviews, and many are dated. Check out Booking.com for more current reviews (indicating a higher average rating).

A lovely little motel that is easy on your budget in a very expensive area. Extremely clean with excellent shower pressure ( I do tire of the exceedingly low pressure in most hotels ). Nicely appointed for a lovely respite and sleep. Very good wifi at all hours. Good safe parking with security cameras in place. Most importantly, I was very pleased with the hospitality of the family who manages this privately owned motel ( which I found was much nicer than the chain establishments in the area ). Navi and her brother who own the establishment are so sincere and thoughtful in thinking of my needs as a guest. They go out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay. I always enjoy staying here whenever I am on business in the area. I highly recommend and is an especially good value for the cleanliness and quiet.

I was really disappointed when we first arrived. One there were garbage and tires in the parking lot. Once we were given our key to the room, there were numerous people hanging outside of the other rooms. It looked more like there were people just living there for ages. Once we entered the room, the smell was horrible. My children were disgusted with the awful smell. The blankets did not look clean. We requested for something to air the room out, did not work. We thought about just leaving and staying somewhere else, but since they would not accomodate the charges that were already taken out, we decided to leave and return when it was time to just go to bed. Slept with the awful smell, but what disturbed us the most was receiving a knock at the door....a dirty looking unstabled woman had the nerve to complain about the water running from the room we were staying at. At other hotels we usually wait till check-out, but after experiencing the stay here we cut it short and left first thing in the morning. Basically, this motel was more of a filthy, unsanitized place. I would not even allow my children to use the towels provided. I even bought sanitation wipes to wipe up the sink and toilet before we used them. I would never recommend anyone to stay at this motel. Worse experience of ourlives, especially for my children. Cannot trust what you see in the photos, it's better to check it out in person.....

We were charged 130 dollars for a room in Salinas that had No A.C. The Bed and room smelled like someone has been smoking cigars. There was noise all night. The room is the sizw of the king bed with maybe 2 more feet for walking space. Being 130, i thought id get a room with comfortable bed. But no. The beds are hard and squeaky. We slept over all the blankets because again, No A.C. if i could rate zero starts i would. At least lower your prices.

I stay in Salinas about once a month to visit family. I have stayed in several budget friendly establishments in the year. I was greeted by Navi, the General Manager. She was very welcoming and friendly! She informed me of the available amenities and provided me with ample information for me trip but above all she was so personable! When I arrived to my room, it was a clean and peaceful retreat for me to call it a night. Although there are no frills you will sleep well and comfortably! I highly recommend and tell Navi, that Danielle said hi!

This is an older property but it has been very well maintained. Has new large screen TV. Very nice room. Very clean. Convenient location on Main Street. No coffee provided either in the room nor in the office.

On sent que les chambres ne sont pas récentes mais elles sont bien entretenues. La salle de bain est très correcte également, rien à redire.|Bien que le motel soit situé dans une zone commerciale on est au calme.||Accueil sympathique malgré l’heure tardive de notre arrivée.

I stayed four days at the El Dorado Motel. It was clean and very basic. Great location. Walking distance to restaurants for breakfast. Polite front desk staff. Great value! I would recommend if you don't want amenities. .
