Most delicious authentic vegan Mexican cuisine ever, and the nicest people!! Words don’t convey how good everything in El Cocinero is. All of the tacos are absolutely delicious (chicharrón, pastor and birria are my personal favorites but all of them are awesome), the quesadilla is just another level, the sauces are all so full of flavor, the champurrado is so good and feels like a hug, the queso fundido from the nachos is unbelievable, the pozole is amazing and super authentic and the elote is also such a delight. To sum up: EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS! This place is heaven - regardless if you’re vegan or not. It’s my new favorite restaurant in LA (and we did quite a gastronomical tour!) and the fact that the people are so lovely just adds up. Thank you Esteban for spoiling us so much - you’re the best and we can’t wait to be back in LA to continue enjoying everything you prepare with so much love.
The best Vegan Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles! The burritos are massive! The tacos and salsas are delicious! All authentic and all Vegan!
The jackfruit TACO 🌮 is game changer!! Absolutely delicious and scrumptious!!! This place is amazing, I ordered the super nachos which is loaded and fresh with a hibiscus 🌺 drink. Also three tacos taste better with the dipping broth!!!!! Definitely will return! RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO PEOPLE WITH TASTE AND RESPECT FLAVOR!! FYI: This not Del Taco or Taco Bell, this were real food is made.
I found this place through a good friend, and everything I've tried since then was delicious. My go-to every time is at least one sope. The crunchy yet soft handmade sope shell is perfection as well as the refried beans; to top it off, I get the carne asada, yum. I also try something different on the side. Their burritos are huge, and they actually make sure you get enough of everything, not just beans and rice. Their mulitas are bomb, the handmade tortilla with the vegan cheese, and super crunchy vegan chicharron they're a must try. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu 😋 this is vegan Mexican food done right.
Vegan tacos burritos and more. The Birria and consume was better than some meat versions I’ve had. Kind of amazing to see a place totally committed to vegan in this neighborhood but I’m here for it. Flavors are spot on, salsas are legit spicy, and it satisfies in that way you want it to, meat or not. This this the gold standard for vegan Mexican food for me. Pro tip: walk in at 1pm when they open, and there’s a line of 12 people already in there. Be prepared to wait or order online for pickup. Update: there is now seating. 12 seats at tables and about about 20 stools on the sides at counters.
I've been here twice. First time (a weekday) I ordered Birria tacos with the consummé. The "meat" was jackfruit and had lots of flavor but not very filling, and why they put a bunch of cabbage on top to cover the entire tacos, I didn't quite understand. The consummé was delicious. My first impression of their food was of slight disappointment. I went around 3pm and it wasn't very crowded. The next time I went was with a friend on a Saturday, and they were packed. I love to see so many people eating vegan food. This time I ordered the al pastor tacos -DELICIOUS!! I got 3 + a side of beans and rice. The "meat" must've been chikn but whatever it was, it worked!! I only ate 2 and took the 3rd one home. The beans and rice were pretty decent, but could've had a little more flavor BUT since I ate it next to the (very flavorful) tacos, it balanced everything out. 👍🏼👊🏼 Aaand some of the best horchata I've ever had; it was perfect. I think I spent $21 at the most, and worth every penny. I'll definitely be back to try something else. But the al pastor was so delish..I may get it again next time + a new item I haven't tried. I was so unimpressed with Hugo's restaurant but THIS? This place is on point. 👊🏼♥️♥️♥️
This is my absolute favorite restaurant in the world. I visited the US and was so happy to find this vegan heaven. Everything I tried was 10/10 and I came back 3 times during my short stay. Everything is made freshly in house and tastes so delicious. The different plant based meats, the tacos, the salsas, the soup and drinks. A true Mexican experience in every way. I appreciate this place so much and the many people that come to eat seem to do so as well. Thank you dear Esteban for being so kind and for spoiling us so much.
Love all their vegan Mexican food options. My favorites are the quesa birria tacos and the carne asada quesadilla, plus their nachos. Make sure to ask for their Chipotle mayo when you get a quesadilla. I always get lots of food for take out, to have over the next few days.
