El Castell Motel - Featured Reviews (877)
We stayed here for 1 night as part of our road trip. This is a very nice motel. Clean, plenty of space for our family of 4 (Inc 2 teenagers) and relatively handy for Monterey and the sights although you will need a car/uber.||Also super handy for the rodeo which was on in the event space behind.||No safe which I found odd but hey ho. ||My only grumble is the inconsiderate guest who was revving their motorbike at 6am. Not the hotels fault, but perhaps bring earplugs as I also noted some people idling their cars but later in the morning so not as much of a disturbance.
Far too much outside light comes in the rooms which makes it very hard to get a full night of sleep. At 5am the room was full of light and even with a sleep mask i could not sleep. Front window has slats and back window has no light protection. They need black out blinds!
Their room was clean but very small. We had a hard time fitting our luggage in the room. Nice and clean bathroom with hot shower. Free parking and an indoor pool were provided. Plus it had laundry for $3/ load which was great. It was only 10 minutes away from the pier.
For an older establishment, this was an ok experience. The beds were comfortable. The showerhead was clogged or broken and had low pressure, making it slightly difficult and unpleasant to shower. Visible mold near the ceiling in many places in the bathroom. Other than that, there is an indoor pool and the motel is located right across from Denny's, which the kids loved. The front desk staff and housekeeping were very friendly and helpful. The overall value matched the price.
The room was fine, not partIcularly nice but fine for the price point in this region. Our A/C unit was making a high-pitched whining noise every time the fan went off. This was not a sound you could sleep through. When I asked to change rooms, the response from management was "Sorry, not possible", even though there were rooms available. We were welcome to upgrade to a better room at our own expense. No attempt was made to investigate or solve the problem. This lack of concern for guest experience is why I would not recommend staying at the El Castell, especially if you're booking through a third-party.
This older hotel near the airport was a hidden gem. Friendly staff, good coffee machine in lobby, and clean/good-sized rooms. The airport noise can be loud but it isn’t all that frequent and there is a curfew that curtails flights at night and early morning. For budget travelers, I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Enjoyed a three night stay here. A bit noisy from time to time (airplanes), and the motorcycle engines make for an interesting wake-up call (I’m sure they are not always there, but…). Aside from that: Friendly staff, very close to airport and downtown), espresso machine in office, and fairly comfy bed.
Easy access off of route 1. Not far from the aquarium and only 45 minutes from Big Sur. Indoor pool. Rooms were clean and comfortable and met price point expectations. I would stay again.
One of my preferred value hotels when staying in Monterey. It is clean, quiet and comfortable. The price is very reasonable. Also seems to be recently renovated. The location is really good. I only have one issue, there are no black-out curtains (the
I joined First City Crossfit in September 2023 and could not be happier with the overall experience. I've been to many crossfit gyms around the country and this has been, by far, the best. Frank and the coaches are outstanding! They have such a desir
