We always enjoy the Christmas display at the courthouse museum! The museum itself is very interesting, as well. If you get a chance to listen to a musical performance upstairs, do it!
We are very proud of our restored 1872 Second Empire style courthouse. We had contributed 50,000 volunteer hours to make it look like it did in 1872. The second floor courtroom is magnificent. We just finished our historic lecture series with family restaurants and diners.
Where to begin, the volunteer is wonderful , she is very knowledgeable about the museum. She informed our family (ranging in ages from 49 yrs old to 2 yrs old) of the rich Effingham military history. We're so happy that we experienced such a delightful and informative tour, without her and others these exhibits and culture may become forgotten. A testament to the perseverance of community and humanity which serves it's community in multiple ways! I hope Effingham preserves this and everyone makes it a point to visit whether you lived in the area your entire life or just passing through! Thank you
Free but donations gladly accepted. This place is a true gem. The reconstruction of the 2nd floor is fabulous. I would love to witness a trial in the courtroom. A recreation of a trial from 1920-1925 would also be great!
Fun small town lots of historic houses and parks good restaurants
There is so much history in this museum. This is a must see in Effingham. The lady working was very attentive and knowledgeable. We took our 11 year old daughter, and she also enjoyed herself!
