Econo Lodge Umatilla Columbia River Area - Featured Reviews (207)
EconoLodge is a small hotel with parking lot available. The lobby is extremely small—there’s nowhere to sit while you wait. The front desk clerk is often not present, so you have to stand in front of a camera to be noticed. When they do come out, they greet you with a polite but indifferent attitude, not going out of their way to be friendly. I can’t comment on the breakfast, as my husband left for work before it started, and I was still asleep. However, when we asked the receptionist about it, she mentioned that breakfast is "grab-and-go," with some bars available. Whether they were actually there or not, I can’t say, as I didn’t see them. There’s no drinking water available, but coffee is offered 24/7. As for the room cleanliness, it was spotless—no complaints there. The mattress was fantastic and very comfortable. It’s clear the hotel has undergone recent renovations, as everything feels fresh. However, the staircase to the second floor was covered in crumbs, indicating it hadn’t been vacuumed for about a week, if not longer. Regarding the pool—it’s out of service. There’s a sign stating that maintenance is being done, but it’s clear it’s been neglected for some time. Despite having water, it’s dusty, so don’t count on using the pool. Lastly, I want to mention the constant smell of food in the lobby. I’m not sure where it’s coming from, given that breakfast isn’t cooked on-site, but the smell was noticeable. Overall, it’s a mixed experience—clean rooms but lacking in amenities and service.
We have stayed at this hotel in the past, and I have to say, it is pretty much going downhill after their remodel. We stayed there 3 nights. There were black crumbs all over the bed after we pulled the top comforter. Luckily, I had brought my own bedding. The mattress on headboard was slumped over so you sank and feet were elevated. The mattress was so lumpy it made our backs hurt! The room was picked up, but not clean. There was hair all over the place. Checking in, I was assured that a continental breakfast would be included . Violet mentioned pastries and fresh fruit.Violet was very polite and almost convinced me to become a rewards member. After 3 days, breakfast was not available. This was my interaction with staff Dulce in the mornings. Day 1, she told me breakfast was gone because all the residents had taken everything. She unlocked a cupboard and placed one pastry and 2 granola bars . She acted like I was bothering her. I had checked breakfast at 6am, 7am and 8, since I couldn’t sleep from the lumpy bed. 2 morning. Dulce told me the van never arrived with the food, and it’s not their fault. She didn’t even bother turning on the lights in breakfast area.Third morning, she stated that they are not even supposed to be serving breakfast at all. I asked her if there was any room for a discount of our stay and she said the rates were the same wether they offered breakfast or not. She was so rude about it and I told her why do you guys even mention it at all? She kept saying we shouldn’t even be offering it. On check out, it was raining so hard we were hauling things to our car. It was 10:40 am, and our keycard was disabled, we stood in the rain like idiots getting soaked trying to get in. we walked through the front door, then our room door was disabled we couldn’t get our stuff, yet a Caucasian man was going in and out also loading his truck and his key card worked just fine. When I asked Dulce, she said, oh, that’s weird and activated again. I thought this worker had one bad day, but 3 days in a row with a bad attitude?
Nice clean hotel, friendly staff even at 10 pm. Even dog friendly. Only few problems.... no proper place for your pet to relieve themselves outside. And the fact the hotel across the street looked really sketchy so I didn't feel safe outside.
This is by far the best hotel I've stayed at and at a good price. Our room smelled great. It was clean. The employees were friendly and helpful. A great place to stay.
Stayed at the Umatilla Econolodge for 1 night, while we passing through town on a roadtrip. Check in and check out was very smooth and the front desk staff (afternoon and morning) were both excellent! We especially appreciated the recommendations of the staff we talked to while checking in who recommended a few things for us to do around town. We ended up having a really amazing time at the McNary Dam Tunnel hike in Plymouth.
We weren’t sure what to expect when we arrived as the hotel looks a little dated from the outside. However we were very pleasantly surprised by how clean, quiet, and comfortable this hotel was. There is a great little bar and restaurant right next door too so overall it was the perfect stay. Very reasonable dog fee compared to many hotels that really try to gouge you. Would definitely stay here again.
No place to appropriatelysafely potty dogs outside. Disappointing for a dog-friendly hotel. Breakfast was a disappointment.
We are loyal Choice members, but I usually shy away from Econo Lodges, but what a surprise this one is. Very clean and comfortable. Sarah at the front desk was super friendly and accommodating. If you are a lite sleeper request a back room , we had a front room and could occasionally hear trucks driving by. Not an issue for us but I know some people can be sensitive to noise. There is a local brew house restaurant next door which was delicious ( try the sweet potato fries). Only good things to say about this motel. If administrators are reading this a small ramp from the parking lot to the front sidewalk would be appreciated so you don’t have to bump your rolling luggage up the curb when checking in. Highly recommend.
