amazing hike. lake frozen in the winter. part of the road to the lake closed in winter. take addition 15 minutes to hike to the trail head, but total worth it. bring your ice cleats!
Echo Lake is a beautiful lake to visit and hike next to. The hike to the far side of the lake is about 2.5 miles one way and is mostly level as it parallels the side of the lake. The views of the lake and surrounding mountains along the way, as well as the small cabins on the lake make for great scenery.
Such a great place to go hiking! Make sure you get there early if you want to find parking. If you plan to go into desolation wilderness, it’s about 3-3.5miles to the border of the wilderness area. There is a taxi boat that will get you to the North-West corner of the lake to then hike up from, or hike back to the car from. It’s a single track trail and has many rocks and logs, and can get wet.
Beautiful lake for hiking, swimming and more! Came here to bring a raft on the water but ended up just swimming. Get here early or later otherwise it will be packed. Would recommend making reservation online. The water is cold so be careful. Bring life jackets and be careful.
Me and my Brothers in the Messiah took a trip to Echo Lake Trailhead. To take a hike up the side of a mountain. Through dirt, and rocks, and water 6 miles high. It was absolutely beautiful, and an experience we shared together in unity, and strength. Ya'ha'wha'shi s creations
Parking is free, but finding long term parking (over 4 hours) can be tough depending on time of day. I arrived at 6am on a Thursday in August and it looked like every stall was taken in the upper lot. I was lucky to find one spot across the street from the marked stalls. Later in the afternoon as I was leaving I found that another row of parked cars had appeared closer to the road which allowed for more cars. The parking lot right at the dock has 2-4 hour stalls. Check air quality before you go in case of smoke from wildfires. Public bathrooms are available but were in horrid condition. I hiked 6 miles to Aloha Lake which took me about 3.5 hours (one way) and I'm in moderate shape. The scenery is beautiful with views of lakes, granite boulders, forest, and meadows. Hiking poles are very helpful on the hills and loose rock (All Trails labels this hike as "Hard").Though I encountered quite a few hikers on my way there, the lake was quiet and only a handful of people were ever there while I was there between 10am-1:30pm. Currently the lake level is very low, but still enough nice cool clean water to swim in. I swam to a few of the rock islands. Recommend lots of sun screen and mosquito repellent. If you're doing a day trip like I did, note that the little store at the Echo Lake dock closes at 5pm. I made it just in time to get ice cream after
Excellent place to begin a hike to Tamarack Lake and beyond. Total length is 5.8 miles and just 890 feet of elevation if you include a one-way water taxi trip. I'd probably do the taxi on the outbound leg, and return on the Northern shore of the Echo Lakes.
Parking stinks. I’ll just be upfront-especially during the weekends. But it’s beautiful lake, and nice area to day hike. Let friendly, and I would recommend bringing water for your four legged critter. The trails are a hike down to any water and you have to go through peoples yards to access the water. Nice area to kayak as well! There is a launch fee, but you can bypass the lake fees and put in past the bear dumpsters 😀
