East Bay Meeting House is hands down my new favorite place to eat. What a delightful and incredible experience. The staff were dressed up beautifully. Fancy dresses, hair curled, lipstick, and scarves in the hair. Totally set the atmosphere. Truly a step back in time. They were each so kind and efficient. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, peaceful, clean and charming. The food was so so incredible. The quiche was the best I have ever had at any restaurant. The watermelon was cut in the shape of hearts. The prices are very reasonable. I am so happy we found this gem in Charleston! I cannot wait to go back, making this a tradition.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. Our experience was amazing from start to finish. We were greeted so warmly by Emily and by the end of our visit she said we’re family and I felt it. The experience was lovely and unhurried. My daughter loved her vanilla tea and I loved my chai tea. My granddaughter had a choice of a hot chocolate pot or a Shirley Temple cold pot. Samantha brought out our tiered tray of delectable savory and sweet treats to eat. My granddaughter had her own small tiered tray. The food was appealing to the eyes and it was delicious as well. I felt Emily and Samantha were so warm and kind to us and especially my granddaughter. I felt like this was a portal to times gone by, but Emily and Samantha called it a portal to happiness, and it truly did feel like that. Our time there was a special day of memories we will always treasure.
We had afternoon tea for a friend’s bachelorette. They made it such a special celebration! There was a variety of savory and sweet bites which were all so delicious. Would highly recommend planning a visit! We’ll be back next time we’re in Charleston.
We recently hosted a bridal high tea here… let me say WOW- the decor, the service, and the tea and food ABOVE AND BEYOND!!! Whether you live in Charleston or are visting-GO!! I highly recommend the salmon lettuce wrap and RVERY DESSERT!
When one expects a meal and is translated into an experience of the heart, soul and stomach, one takes notice. These are those stories. Clong Clong! The Atmosphere When I stepped through the lilting wooden doors, I could scarce know that I had passed into a portal of joy. Immediately to the right sits a beautiful bar area, reminiscent of a romanticized time gone by. Behind it stands a wonderful human being. Panning left, my eyes are met with the elegance of white cloth, goblet glasses and lovely place settings; some by the windows overlooking the street. There is an air of fancy but, it’s not stuffy. It’s warm. It’s inviting. It’s delightful. The Staff Returning to the kind soul behind the bar, Emilee greets each patron with an air of whimsy and arms-wide-open love. She wants to be there. She wants you to be there. She wants to meet you there. Emilee is easy to talk to, takes her time to engage and does so joyfully. But this isn’t a monologue of warmth; it is a duet. Out walks Samantha from the back kitchen. Passion for her craft is in her eyes and she reflects the openness and bienvenue characteristic of the meeting place. Sam is ready to dish about her culinary creations; creations which can be characterized as calafragilistic. She has things to do in the other room, but you’ll never feel like you are imposing in conversation. After all, it is a meeting place. The Food My wife brought me here for high tea; I didn’t know what to expect. I like tea. I like having it at 3 o’clock. I didn’t know it would be this good though. The tea itself was potted delight. The selection is precise and yet covers good ground. Blacks, white, green and herbal - all of top shelf quality. I opted for the rooibos: floral, fragrant, slightly fruity and forward enough to stand alone as well as open minded enough to play well with milk. My wife opted for masala chai: warming, welcoming, witty in its combination of rich flavors; a best friend of milk. The food arrives on three-tiered Victorian-esque serving tray. It is an etude of existentialism; providing ample opportunity for the senses to sharpen as one is whisked away, down the jaunting lingual journey. The bottom tier is savory. A wonderful blend of southern-charm and European flair, there are delightful texture combinations, flavors that have formed a family band (Jackson 5 level) and just a palpable joy in the experience. One of my favorites was actually one of the most simple: a fresh crunchy cuke whose crisp have way to a fleshy kalamata olive which melted into herbed mascarpone. A full experience in one bite. But let’s not forget the delightful curried chicken in a baked whole wheat tortilla cup; a toasty crunch complimented by savory, yet bright turmeric, curry and a surprising golden raisin. Conclusion You’ve got to come here. You would have a delightful time if you come with the purpose of community and enchantment.
We love afternoon tea so we decided to check out this spot since we were going to be in Charleston for the day. Afternoon tea is $45 per person, or $50 if you order champagne, and they require a 48-hour reservation and also cancellation window. If it's your first time doing afternoon tea, you'll probably enjoy it because the food was good. However, the clotted cream was strangely watery, and tasted almost like cream cheese. But, if you're a seasoned afternoon tea person, you may be disappointed by the high price and accompanying small portions.
I went with friends in december for tea. The table was beautifully set and the staff were very attentive. The sandwiches were lovely and tasteful but as far as anything above the bottom tier of the tray it seemed like everything was store-bought. I found it to be expensive given that the food was not the quality that I was hoping for. I've been to many different places for tea and this was certainly not a highlight for me. I hope everyone else has a better experience than we did.
This cafe not only had the best food and breakfast sandwich that I have ever had, but also had the kindest staff. We went during the nor’easter that blew through Charleston and were stuck there for quite some time. They offered us drinks, more food, and allowed us to wait out the storm. When we did decide to leave, our server offered umbrellas and got himself SOAKED in the storm just to walk me to the car without myself getting wet. Love love love this cafe. The epitome of southern hospitality. Thank you again to the gentleman who risked his uniform to walk me to my car! And again, bestttttt food. Delicious!
