I really enjoyed coming here. The outside looks underwhelming but inside it's great. Really good service (I did come at a slow time) but the food was definitely fresh. Definitely get anything with their pulled pork in it.

We stopped in for a meal with friends. The food was amazing, I had the prime rib and it did not disappoint at all. Cooked beautifully, and the creamed spinach was second to none. The wait staff was super friendly and on point with everything. Whenever the next time we are in Sussex again, we will definitely be stopping here again!!!

Good choices for food. The meatloaf and burgers could've used a little salt, but I'd rather add salt than it being to salty! 🙂 HALF PRICE APPS AFTER 9PM. GREAT DEAL!!

Fun night out. Large tables so tables of 6 are easy to seat. The service and food were good. Always a festive atmosphere. The sweet potato fries are super yum and I really enjoyed the prime rib sandwich.

Very nice place with a lot of old charm. The food, Bartender, and clientele were all nice. The downside was a $9.00 tap beer. Yes a german beer, I think. But that price was obscene. I can not image a glass of wine or mixed drink cost. Totally kills my recommendation or desire to return. I would be very cautious regarding a recommendation to others.

Food was mediocre. My sandwich was a special & didn’t have much brisket on it. It was more of a hoagie bread sandwich. That is all I tasted. My husbands 1/2 rack of ribs were an extremely small portion. Not worth $22! Children’s sodas were $4! That is ridiculously over priced! My husbands draft beer was $4.50. Fried pickles & French onion soup were good. The atmosphere is still the same as it has been for the last 30 years.

Early American Tavern has earned my personal “Best BLT” award. My sister loved her pizza, my mother loved the French onion soup. Everything was great about this place, especially the fact that the entertainment (a band at the time I was there) wasn’t at all overpowering. I do recommend it!

Update, this was remedied and we are very happy with the professionalism shown to fix it. I didn't want to have to leave a poor review but the turn around time for the owner to call has been roughly 5 days at this point. I've been looking forward to eating here for months and we decided to do take out for Christmas Eve. First, the ease of ordering was wonderful. Pickup was on time and seemed pretty straight forward. When my husband got our stuff home we realized that a part of our meal was missing (his bad for not checking either). We also realized that the mozzarella sticks we ordered were empty inside! The cheese has totally exploded out and disintegrated, so we had hollow greasy bread sticks. We called just to see if they could refund us the mozzarella sticks and pecan pie. She said she'd remake them and we can come pick them up, it was really very nice of her to offer that for us. However, we declined because the trip was roughly 30 mins round trip and not worth it at that point. She then stated that we couldn't be refunded without the owners approval and he will be back on the 26th. My husband has called back three times since and now the owner won't be back until after the New Year. The problem we are having is the lack of resolution to this and not even the customer service because everyone we've talked have been wonderful. It shouldn't take over a week to resolve something as small as mozzarella sticks and a piece of pie. I don't understand how there isn't a manager there in the owners absence to deal with queries like ours and resolve the issue. I would very much like to give this place another shot but am worried about the lack of resolution if we have another issue. Overall the other items we got were delicious and very well made! And the people we've spoken to have been very nice and courteous.
