It's been a month since we stayed at Eagles' Nest and my mind keeps returning to it. This small family owned resort was everything we hoped it would be. It was secluded...we loved the little path that ran through the woods surrounding it. And yet we could walk to some fun places to eat in a matter of minutes. The cabin had all the timeless charm with none of the rust or grime of an old structure...it was so clean! The furniture was cozy and comfortable, and the bed! I haven't slept that well in a very long time. The charming kitchen was very well equipped. The owners were kind and helpful. Plenty of fun in the gameroom as well as yard games. We loved that we had free access to kayaks, paddleboats, boards, and canoes. And we loved that life vests were well maintained in the office and not left outside for the sun to bake and spiders to attract. But the very best thing is the fact that the Paul Bunyan trail runs right along the edge of the property...we didn't have to bike through traffic to access it! And free use of bikes and helmets! That was the main reason be booked this resort, and it was so wonderful to bike for miles on that beautiful trail!
I was on the prowl to find a resort with old-fashioned cabins and a quiet atmosphere. We used to go to a place in Park Rapids and they "improved" the cabins by making them bigger and fancier (a/c and tvs). This place knocked it out of the park. The cabins and small and simple, but very clean with comfortable furniture that aren't just thrift store rejects. We had everything we needed plus a little space for playing games and such on the 1 rainy day.||||We were here during "social distancing", so there were no organized activities, but we didn't even miss them. There is a great outdoor space with playground and games, the beach and swimming area weren't big or fancy, but perfect for our needs, and though the community room was closed, we still had access to games and puzzles. We loved trying the paddle boards and going for kayak rides - all provided by the resort.||||The owners/family were wonderful. I loved that they were accessible and that they took time to enjoy the lake with their family as well. My kids never stopped moving and can't wait to come back. ||||This is located about 1/2 mile down the Paul Bunyan Trail from Nisswa, so we could walk/bike to town for ice cream or dinner. There's a nice city park on the way. ||||This will be our new annual vacation spot.||||As noted in other reviews, bring an extra fan or two. .The breeze off the lake isn't quite enough for really hot summer nights.
My family and I have been coming up here for years and love it. The resort has sixteen cabins ranging in size from two person to 8 person cabins. The resort is on the water with multiple docks. There is a swimming area with a floating dock as well as fishing docks. There are three paddle boards, I believe four or five kayaks, multiple canoes, and motor boats. It is a very nice setup. They have a sand area by the water with sand toys. The cabins are rustic it gives you a nice break from life. There is a playground on the resort and the nest which is where games are kept for anyone to use. It is also a super short mile bike ride or walk into town on the Paul Bunyan trail. In town there is great shopping and everyone’s favorite candy store. It is a great place for all ages to have fun and enjoy themselves.
My husband and I spent a long weekend at Eagle's Nest Resort in September for our anniversary. It was a great stay! Our 1BR cabin was small, simple, comfortable, and very, very clean. Even though it was chilly outside and the cabin was not insulated, we turned up the gas fireplace and were cozy all night. The owners were a very nice younger couple - very friendly and accommodating to our requests. The location was great and there were many amenities! The resort was within walking distance to town and right on the bike path. ||||Regarding the fishing/lake: We brought our own boat and docked it at the resort. We spent most of our days fishing and had very good luck. The lake was not very busy with fishermen or boaters, which was very nice. On the down side, our boat was not that big and we had a difficult time navigating onto Middle Cullen Lake - it was a very shallow, narrow passage, but it was well worth the effort. As soon as we got through we saw an eagle and a very picturesque view. The fishing was pretty decent as well. There was no way we could navigate our boat into Upper Cullen Lake - the passage was a small culvert. ||||Overall, I really enjoyed this resort and would highly recommend it for families and couples looking for a quiet resort with good fishing and many amenities.
My family has been visiting Eagles Nest for a week each summer for six years. The resort owners are excellent hosts. The cabins are comfortably furnished and clean. There is always something to do - fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, enjoying nature on the Paul Bunyan Trail, or walking into town to browse through the many unique shops. I would highly recommend this location.
We have been going to eagles nest for years now. If you talk to people staying there, many will have been staying at the nest for 5-10 years. It has been a great getaway for us. There are activities for young children to college aged. The water is awesome, docks are good for boats, great playground, nature areas, games in the nest. ||The cabins have no tv (yeah!) and no air conditioning (bring an extra fan or two). Cabins are always clean. Bring an extra lantern light to play cards in the porch at night. We have always been with other respectful guests, no craziness or loud parties.||Sit and watch the lake or take out a free kayak or paddle board. Close enough to Nisswa you can bike, or walk (about 3/4-1 mile? Paul Bunyan trail goes to Pequot lakes too. Justin has always been Jonny on the spot, even when my dock ropes broke in a big storm. ||We love going back to the nest!
I came home for a visit to Minnesota in September & decided to rent a cabin for a ladies weekend. So glad I chose Eagle's Nest in Nisswa. The place was clean, comfy, quaint and the grounds beautiful. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Justin even took the time to help us ladies start a campfire. Highly recommend this resort for your next vacation get-away. Joyce-Richland, WA
The Eagle's Nest offers many things to do for families with young kids. The property has a good sized play ground, volleyball court both on land and in water, basketball court, a Teepee, paddle boards, canoes, pedal boat, terraced sand box area by the lake, good swimming area, daily nature activities and bikes. The resort itself is well kept and the cabins clean with adequately supplied kitchens. The drawbacks; poor wifi, no television, no a/c, and a fairly strict policy of no noise after dark we had been told to keep it down several times 9:30/10pm while playing board games and cards. The lake is perfect for fishing (good fish cleaning house) swimming, tubing,etc.. The resort is walking/biking distance to Nisswa which offers access to restaurants, shopping, and a fantastic candy store/ice cream shop for the kids. We enjoyed our stay and will most likely book another stay.
This was such a wonderful time away for my wife and I! Was so great to be able to disconnect and just enjoy our time and the world around us. They team was very friendly and the environment around your cabin was amazing!! They had complimentary games
Absolutely loved this spot! They had wagons to make bringing everything to the cabin super easy. The cabin had everything you needed, and pleasantly surprised me with really nice knives for cooking! The continental breakfast was really good for our l

As soon as we walked in the door, we were blessed with the smells of amazing delicious coffee!
The coffee did not disappoint. So freaking good. The Mayan Mocha and the Turtle Mocha were fabulous.
We have cabin 9 with a group of eight, family and friends, each couple has our own bedroom, and share two bathrooms. Beautiful open spaces in kitchen and living room area.
Great state forest with lots of activities. Decent hiking/biking and horse trails. Has a nice campground for a state forest with a swim beach. Many day use areas with many lakes to enjoys. Looks like fishing is good for how busy the lakes were.
