Neat little museum about Nederland. The Dutch part (immigrants from the Netherlands) and the settlers who built the city.
The lady who helped us didn't speak any Dutch, but they have a lot in display which is typical (from decennia ago) Dutch.
Closed when I arrived, hours are not posted anywhere. Two other groups stopped while I was here. Very well kept museum area, windmill, and clean grounds. Sidewalks are narrow and might not accommodate wheelchairs very far, and one area has short stairs.
So very excited to say that this museum and gift shop is open to the public! I was proudly born and raised in Nederland Texas, and this was a very special treat for the elementary school kids to take their Nederland Heritage field trip and that was the only time you were allowed in as far as I knew well into the 2000s. Tex Ritter, famous actor and country singer starting in the 1930, as well as the father of beloved actor John Ritter, called Nederland Texas his home no matter how far he romed.
Here at the windmill you will find probably one of the best kept collection of his memorabilia as well as information on the towns first settlers and their connection to the Netherlands, hence the name Nederland.
Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area 💖
Very disappointed with our visit. One of the reasons we decided to explore the Beaumont area was because I really wanted to visit the Dutch Windmill Museum. It seemed from online info that it would be open, but when we arrived, the whole area (including Chamber of Commerce/Visitor's Center) was a total ghost town. Nobody, nothing, and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I did get a picture with the windmill, but that's about the only positive about our visit.
Awesome little museum and hearing the history of the area was very interesting. It's free but there is a donation box by the door. Next door is another museum about pioneer life. The grounds are lovely and there's a gazebo to sit and take a break. I'll go again and take mom.
As a historical landmark and visitor area, it's pretty cool. If you're a pokemon goer, it's a Godsend. My family will sit outside on the bench and catch pokemon for hours and enjoy the weather and occasional passerby, with pokestops and gyms aplenty.
A lot of great history about the people settling in Nederland.
Great museum run by two very kind owners who take a lot of time to talk about the history of Nederland. The experience is naturally extra special if you're from the Netherlands yourself
