This is a great local, to Phoenix, area to go to hike and walk. We also saw a number of mountain bikers. It is dog friendly, which was nice. The views of the western valley and Phoenix are spectacular. Located just off of Hwy 51, it is really easy to get to. They just finished a new parking lot with new bathroom facilities that helped to upgrade the location. There are plenty of trails, so that even when it's busy, you don't feel like you're right on top of each other. I also felt that the trails are beginner friendly, so you can bring along the kids or people that don't typically hike.
I love hiking here. Trails are really nice but watch your step. People bring their dogs which is cool, but don't always pick up after them. Always remember to bring water including for your pet even for short hikes.
Hike the Freedom Trail at Sunset. Due to construction to upgrade and beautify the trail entrance and parking at the Northern Road entrance, you want to access these trails from the backside. Pickup the Freedom Trail (the 1) from either Cactus Rd., or the 1/4 point bench at the Peak. You’re able to head up as well off the 302 marker, just stick to the #1 and let it carry you for miles all through all through this desert oasis. Sunset right now (October) is bursting with dreamy pink skies.
Watch for rattlesnakes at dusk this is their favorite time to come out.
Access for many with new ramps, nice makeover. Trails pretty much the same with many great hiking areas. Would highly recommend this place. Weekends great crowded!
This park offers clean private bathrooms with flushing toilets. Handwashing sinks are provided as well. This is the finest park in the Phx mt preserve
Great area for beginner and intermediate hikers with some advanced stuff off the normal path. Looked like some good biking trails and did see some biking down the paths. Had alot of fun and really enjoyed myself!!

Great place for all the north valley residents to head out for a relaxing walk into the nature with moderate hiking. If you choose to head all the way up to the top of the mountain peak then that would serve as a good hike. Loved the 360 degree view
