Drakes Pond Apartments - Apartment building in Kalamazoo - 555 S Drake Rd, USA

Drakes Pond is a great community to live in. When I knew that I'd be moving to Kalamazoo, I gave the front office a call and Colin was very helpful with answering all my questions and finding the unit that fit all of my needs. The buildings are old, so it was no surprise to me that a few things needed to be fixed when I moved in. The important thing to me is that the maintenance team was very quick to respond and fixed everything I asked them to. They also hold happy hours once a month. As a social person, I enjoy talking with my neighbors and the staff (and also enjoying a few free drinks lol). I think for how spacious the apartments are, all the amenities they offer, and a staff that takes care of things quickly, Drakes Pond is a great place to live.

We lived here for a year in a 3 bedroom and had a very good experience. The amenities and neighborhood is what makes this place! Huge indoor gym facility with beautiful indoor pool, the outdoor pool is also well kept. The ponds are beautiful, and it feels nice and tucked away from the busy street. Never had to call maintenance the entire time we lived there, the apartment was massive. And we felt very safe living here. Only things I will say is that I wish they had more updated kitchens/bathrooms. Our unit was fairly old looking considering the price we paid. And being that the apartments have an indoor hallway connecting them, we could often hear our neighbors while sitting in our living room. The walls were not sound proof, and the halls would echo. With a few updates this place would be 5 stars!

10/10 — This apartment community has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The unit I’m in has tons of natural light and space. There’s also easy access to many shops and restaurants nearby. DelAnn is wonderful, she helped my roommate and I through the process of renting the unit.

Drakes Pond was an option I considered based on the reviews from Colin, until I went in person and saw how racist he was. Covert racism was demonstrated during both in-person encounters with Colin. The first time I tried to ignore it, but the 2nd time (last-night) could not be ignored. Colin was very condescending with the comments he made towards me, specifically calling my job “a gig”, lying about his education experience, and about his position with the company…stating he was the Assistant Manager when he’s a leasing consultant. This saddens me being a Kalamazoo native & Western Michigan University Alumni. I’ve never experienced racism on this level in Kalamazoo, MI. I lived in the south for many years, and I am very familiar of what racism looks like, feels like, and how one can attempt to disguise it. This is very unacceptable behavior for anyone. As a leasing agent you should treat all people the way you want to be treated despite their race, religion, social class and economic status. I would not recommend Drake’s Pond to anyone. It is NOT equal housing for all.

Colin is amazing! Any time I’ve called he has been very helpful and kind. I appreciate his upbeat personality and his willingness to be so personable. Susan is also awesome!! She is always so friendly. She even helped me on a Sunday as she saw me struggling to get in a door on the property. I enjoy the layout and space in my unit and the grounds are very beautiful. My child enjoys the year round swimming with the indoor pool. We’ve enjoyed our time here for the past year or so.

We moved to Michigan from North Carolina and ended up in a horrifying living situation. The INCREDIBLE and PATIENT team at Drake’s Pond worked tirelessly to help get us into a new home. Susan and Collin went above and beyond to not only get everything set up for our family regarding the residence but to love on our littles in the process. The apartment is clean, the fixtures are nice, it feels safe and cozy and is a spacious floor plan. Our whole family is excited about the amenities and I cannot say enough about the kindness and quality of the customer service with the leasing team. 100% recommend.

This is my 3rd time living here and I love it! I had a "Life Happens" situation and Susan helped me quickly and efficiently to get me and my daughter into a great apartment. The entire office staff is extremely nice and very helpful. Maintenance always seems to answer any issues I've had quickly. I would highly recommend living here.

I just wanted to say how wonderful it has been living here. I can't say enough positive things about the maintenance guys Jordan and Chris Dade. They go above and beyond on a daily basis. They are truly hard workers and an asset to the property and company. Susan in the office is also top notch and is very helpful. Great people make it a great place to live.
