DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Breckenridge - Featured Reviews (1541)
We stayed here a couple of years ago and it was terrible! We went back because of its location to the slopes and have stayed several times this year. It has greatly improved and I believe it will continue to get better! It’s in a great location, super close to the slopes and short walk to food. Not entirely sure why people complain about having to walk to the pool as the hotel does not claim they have a pool on their website. Yes, the elevators are slow, but it’s not the end of the world. The staff are SO friendly and helpful! The bellhops are always asking if they can help and they remember you when you come back. There is one front desk woman who is just amazing. She always gives us warm cookies, treat bags for our dogs with a tennis ball, treats, and waste bags. She also let my boys pick out a small “treasure” from their treasure box. The renovations look AMAZING. I can’t wait to see everything once it’s complete!
Upon check in we realized that the hotel was under renovation. The place is torn apart. The ceiling is exposed on the hall to the room. The hall smells strong from the paint, which is bad for the kids allergies. We are basically sharing the hotel with the construction crew. They are staying all around us. In fact, it’s hard to even catch an elevator ride to the 6 Th floor bc of crew on the elevators with mini dumps, wheelbarrows and the filth is terrible. The curtains are literally falling off the wall in our room too. We learned they are closing a few days.
Is this how Hilton employees would want their families to stay? Make sure if you stay at a Hilton it’s not under construction, oh and it’s posted as a hard hat site!! They told us that 95% of the hotel is empty and there are only 6-8 rooms with people. Oh and the hot tub is 2 blocks if you want to use it. Super disappointing! We called 2x to get assistance and they disconnected us. Great service for Hilton Honors Members. I need post the pics.
As someone who frequently stays at hotels, and considers herself to be primarily loyal to Hilton — I have to admit that my recent experience at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Breckenridge was FAR from satisfactory. Despite my flexibility and understanding, I was incredibly disappointed.
The only positive aspect of our stay was the gorgeous lobby. However, from that point on, everything was a mess and absolutely chaotic.
1. The check-in process was a headache, with our room assignment being completely different from what was promised.
2. We paid for on-site garage parking, only to find the garage full, forcing us to park across the street due to construction.
3. Navigating the hotel was a nightmare. The elevator situation was confusing and we had to trek through the hallways aimlessly to reach our rooms.
4. Once there, we found the television non-functional and no soap provided. To top it off, one of the two rooms I booked had bed bugs on the sofa bed mattress.
5. Attempts to contact the front desk via the phone in the hotel room were pointless, leaving me to trek back and forth from the 9th floor to the lobby multiple times.
6. Replacement sheets took nearly two hours to arrive, adding to the frustration.
7. The food quality was subpar and the entire menu was overpriced.
While I understand the hotel is undergoing construction — the level of inconvenience and discomfort we experienced was unacceptable. I'm grateful we only stayed one night because this ranks as one of my top three worst hotel experiences.
I felt embarrassed for booking such inadequate accommodations for my friends who flew in to celebrate my birthday. With all this said, I STRONGLY advise against staying at this Hilton until significant improvements are made.
Hands down the best location, staff and hotel in Breckenridge. The views are top notch. The lobby is beautiful and inviting. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. Walking distance to everything your heart can desire. Just an all around wonderful place to rest your head after a long day of adventure. Shout out to Brent for going the extra mile for our family and making this family vacation one we will talk about for years to come! Thank you!!!
Because of the negative reviews, I almost canceled. Glad I didn't. Excellent customer service, from check in to the bartender to the rental equipment to the ski valet. The common areas are new and modern. Construction is ongoing, but only noticeable walking down the hallways, elevators, and stairs. It is a 25 yr old hotel with dated and stale rooms, which is why they're upgrading. My room is very clean with a comfortable bed and crisp clean linens. The bathroom has decent plumbing w/plenty of towels, soaps & shampoo. There is no sign of construction in my room, and I haven't been disturbed by construction noise. Mini fridge doesn't work, but I'm keeping drinks and perishables on porch. Can't beat the location. Walk across the street through a small parking lot and ski down to ski lift. Or, walk a few minutes uphill for another lift.
The Arrival
Arriving at what we thought was the back entrance, we were immediately charmed by the live-action construction zone. Picture this: concrete dust swirling around us, scattered tools underfoot, and a crane ominously looming over the entrance. Turns out, this was the main entrance. Very avant-garde, very chic.
Approaching the front desk (a makeshift table with a stack of papers barely balancing on one corner), we were greeted by a teenager who clearly had aspirations of being anywhere but there. His disinterested grunts really set the tone for our stay.
The Room
After a delightful wait, during which we were serenaded by the soothing sounds of jackhammers, we finally received our key. The journey to our room was an adventure in itself—navigating through plastic sheeting and dodging construction workers. It was like an obstacle course, but without the fun.
Opening the door to our room, we were greeted by the pungent aroma of fresh paint and the sight of a half-assembled bed. The decor was minimalist, to say the least. One pillow, no blankets, and a view of the construction site. Who needs mountain vistas when you can watch cement being poured?
The Amenities
The Grand Disappointment boasts a variety of amenities. The fitness center was a corner of the basement with a broken treadmill and a yoga mat that looked like it had seen better days. The "spa" was a storage room with a hose. Truly luxurious.
The complimentary breakfast was another highlight. If you enjoy a selection of stale bagels and coffee that tastes like it's been brewed from the local construction runoff, you’re in for a treat. Bon appétit!
The Staff
Ah, the staff. From the receptionist who could barely muster a grunt to the housekeeping team that evidently believed in a "less is more" approach to cleaning, the service was unparalleled. Special shoutout to the maintenance guy who burst into our room at 7 AM to fix a light that wasn't broken.
The Final Touch
Checkout was as smooth as our check-in. After another delightful wait, we handed in our key and received a nod from the receptionist. No "thank you," no "how was your stay," just a nod. Efficiency at its finest.
Overall Experience
If you're looking for an unforgettable stay in Breckenridge, look no further than the Grand Disappointment Hotel. It’s a place where the sounds of construction lull you to sleep, the amenities are creatively interpreted, and the staff treat you with an indifference that makes you feel right at home. Five stars—for anyone who loves irony.
The staff here were very nice and welcoming. We were offered help to get our bags up to our room and several other staff members we encountered on our elevator ride up helped us with our things. The location is fantastic. The lobby is beautiful! However, this hotel is very much under renovations. The disclaimer says "minimal impact to guest experience" which is incorrect. Try telling your three year old that looked forward to the pool the whole drive there that actually, there is no pool! That sucked. Our window in our room barely closed and was propped open when we arrived. The fridge was not cold at all. The carpets in the room were absolutely disgusting. Food, dirt, what looked like blood. Just yuck. Parking is $45 a night and the spots are TINY. I felt like Austin Powers down there trying to park our midsize SUV. Thankfully we found a spot because they only have like 20 of them. And to top it off, they charged the wrong cards at the end of the stay. They really should be closed during this renovation. The work would probably be done much faster if they were and they'd stop racking up these horrible reviews.
I stayed here last season and the hotel and staff were great. Probably the best location you’re going to get for the price.
The breakfast is dank if you get the $30 up-charge, that being said; the first morning we were absolutely blown away by how amazing the cinnamon rolls were. I mean they were the perfect texture, perfect amount of cinnamon goo, everything was lit. However, the second morning after finding my way over to the ‘rolls again, as I was reaching into the perfect bun to get some creamy goodness, I was met with a hard, rocky, obviously 24 hours old roll. Folks when I say these were hard I’m telling you I’ve been active for about 15 years now and I have NEVER been this hard. I was so disappointed that I wept right there in the breakfast area, I wept to the point that it was causing other guests to take their plates “to go”.
All in all this is a great hotel, large rooms and beautiful views all within walking distance to the green slopes for those of us that are a little light in the loafers. I mean I’ll do a blue slope but I look so out of place it’s disturbing to anyone that witnesses. But make no mistake I get out there, I make the best of it. Someone stole my skis on the last day which blew but this has nothing to do with the Doubletree whatsoever.
All I’m saying is this is a great hotel, but let’s not phone it in on the cinnamon rolls this year guys. I’m paying $30 for breakfast for Christ sake and I’m about to go out there and embarrass myself all day on the ski resort.
Would recommend. Definitely coming back.
